Academic Integrity Policy
SUNY Delhi School of Nursing

I.  Academic Integrity is a commitment, even in the face of adversity, to honesty, trust, fairness, respect and responsibility.  Academic Integrity is the responsibility of all faculty and students of the School of Nursing at SUNY Delhi. 

II.  Breach (violation) of Academic Integrity is constituted by:

A.  Cheating and/or aiding academic dishonesty, which includes but is not limited to:

1. Copying someone else’s work (tests, assignments) with or without that person’s permission, and using it as your own.

2. Looking on someone else’s, or allowing someone to look on your test, quiz or work sheet, during testing or whenever individual work is expected by the Instructor.

3. Inappropriate collaboration on individual assignments, tests or quizzes.

4. Use of any electronic devices including but not limited to cell phones, cameras, internet access, text messaging, crib sheets, hidden notes, or other resources or aids during testing.

5. Use of any auditory recording device during testing. 

6. Facilitating cheating by assisting or attempting to assist someone to violate any part of this policy.

7. Changing test answers from incorrect to correct after having seen the test key.

8. Obtaining and/or using copies of tests.

B.  Plagiarism which includes but is not limited to:

1. Using the words, writings or ideas of someone else as your own in any academic activity.

2. Copying significant portions of text straight from a source, without or with very slight alteration.

3. Failure to cite sources of words or information.

4. Failure to use quotation marks to designate direct quotes as part of a citation.

5. Self-plagiarism: Submitting the same assignment or any other content from same or different courses and/or a repeated course.

C.  Fabrication and falsification, which includes but is not limited to:

1. Falsifying class related documents, records, or care plans.

2. Intentionally inaccurate recording or reporting of information about assigned clients.

3. Lack of documentation, reporting or recording of required information regarding assigned clients.

4. Falsification of licenses, certifications.

III  Repercussions when a student violates this policy:

1. For any student who commits a violation of academic integrity on a test, quiz, or other assignment, additional points may be lost; a ‘0’ grade for that test, quiz, or assignment; or a course grade of "F".  No make up test or assignment will be given.

2. The instructor will submit an Academic Warning describing the violation in detail.

3. Students may be required to complete or repeat the Vancko Hall Plagiarism course.

IV. Course failure may be consequences if the violation is determined to be egregious. An egregious violation may include but not limited to the following:

  1.  Purchasing a paper online and submitting it as your own work.

  2.  Includes false references (citing work from a reference but really comes  
  from another reference).

  3.  Submit another’s work as one's own.

  4.  Sharing/giving graded or ungraded work to another student.

  5.  Self-plagiarism: Submitting the same assignment or any other content from the same or different courses and/or a repeated course.

  6.  Falsifying signatures and course documents.
