Business & Computer Information Systems Programs:
Technical Standards for admission, progression, and graduation

Our technical standards for have been developed to help students understand the minimum essential mental, physical, and behavioral skills necessary for participation in and completion of all core aspects of our curriculum. To participate in and successfully complete any program of study in the Business and Computer Information Systems Department, with or without reasonable accommodations, all students must be able to meet the following general technical standards:

1.  Attend and participate in all classroom courses.

2.  Have the ability to perform all course objectives in classroom or laboratory environments. 3. Communicate effectively and professionally when interacting with peer, faculty, other college personnel, guests and potential employers.

4. Have the ability to maintain the safety and well being of fellow students in all environments on campus, during internships, and at other college sponsored activities.

5. Acquire information from written documents and computer information systems (including literature searches and data retrieval), identify information presented in images from paper, videos, transparencies, slides, graphic images and all digital and analog representations.

For a student to participate in and successfully complete any program of study in the Business area, with or without reasonable accommodations, a student must be able to meet technical standards in the following areas: (1) communication skills, (2) behavioral skills, and (3) thinking skills.

 

Social Attributes

1. Behave appropriately in both self‐directed and cooperative learning environments.

2.  Work independently with minimal supervision.

3.  Work cooperatively with partners and groups.

4.  Work diligently and put in necessary time to complete tasks.

 

Intellectual Skills

1. Ability to recognize, measure, calculate, and analyze numbers.

2. Ability to read and comprehend textbooks and handouts.

3. Persevere on difficult tasks.

4. Maintain positive attitude and work ethic during internship.

 

Communication Skills

1. Communicate to gather and convey information.

2. Obtain necessary information from oral and written sources.

3. Express information coherently.

4. Document work accurately.

Participate in and successfully complete any program of study in the Computer Information Systemsarea, with or without reasonable accommodations, a student must be able to meet technical standards in he following areas: (1) behavioral skills, (2) communication skills, (3) environmental tolerance, (4) internships, (5) motor skills, (6) sensory observation skills, and (7) thinking skills.

 

Behavioral Skills

INFORMATION SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGY

Environmental Tolerance

1. Function safely in a computer repair shop environment.

2. Work for prolonged periods amidst electrical equipment, dust and heat, and variations in lighting.

 

Internships

1. Develop appropriate relationships with clients, colleagues, coworkers and relevant others

2. Exhibit integrity, honesty, concern for others, good interpersonal skill, interest and motivation as representative of emotional health.

 

Motor Skills

1. Possess the mobility and dexterity required to do computer installations, wiring, and repairs.

2. Execute computer commands.

3.  Operate necessary tools and equipment.

4.  Remove and replace failed components and small parts.

5. Possess manual dexterity to operate computer devices such as a keyboard and mouse.

 

Sensory Observation Skills

1. Assess computer software and hardware for proper functioning.

2. Recognize command line input/output and computer codes. 

3. Judge distance and space relationships of objects.

4. Distinguish basic colors.

5. Examine computer hardware components for diagnosis and repair.

6.  Observe and replicate teacher‐demonstrated procedures.

 

Thinking Skills

1. Ability to demonstrate comprehension of the fundamentals of electronics, mathematics, and computer programming to manage computer software and hardware.

2. Ability to read and comprehend textbooks and handouts.

3. Use programming language and syntax.

4. Replicate procedures and input commands in proper sequence.

5. Explain the operation of computer components.

6. Describe a computer operating system.

7. Assemble and configure networks.

 

Minimum requirements to be considered for admission HS Average: 75
