Dean Morales said, “NYSTA’s generous support over the past twenty years has contributed to SUNY-Delhi’s continued success as a leader in Turf and Golf Course education.” He also added that “this most recent grant award will enable our students enrolled in our Associate and Bachelor degree programs to use advance technology as it relates to pest and plant identification - the first steps in managing complex turf and landscape facilities.”
According to Dr. Ben McGraw, assistant professor in the Golf and Plant Sciences Department, “Many of our classes will be greatly enhanced thanks to NYSTA’s generosity. The ability of the digital microscopes to capture images or videos and display them on a projector screen allows me to effectively communicate to my students. When teaching about small organisms or structures, like insect pests or turfgrass morphology, I can demonstrate it on the screen, allowing students to visualize what I am discussing.”
Already, the microscopes have made laboratory sessions more visual and entertaining. Adam Hicks, second year student in the turfgrass management program, says that the teaching microscopes will greatly benefit the students, “…replacing many teaching scopes that do not have working parts or are now somewhat obsolete. The ability of the microscopes to project on the screen allows everyone to see the same image at the same time.”
