High School Admission Consideration Criteria:
1. Graduation from a college preparatory high school program with a minimum average of 80%.
2. A grade of 75%, or higher, on NYS algebra and geometry regents exams.
3. Trigonometry is highly recommended.
4. Physics, and studio art preferred.
5. No portfolio is required.
External College Transfer Admission Consideration Criteria:
Transfer applications to the 4 year BT in Architectural Design and Building will be accepted from students in Architectural, and non-Architectural programs. BT year placement, and curriculum completion requirements, will be determined from college courses completed. To be considered for admission to the BT, college transfer students must at minimum:
1. Have a 2.3 accumulative average in all previous college courses.
2. Submit a portfolio as detailed below if seeking advanced design studio placement.
Note that all transfer acceptances to the BT are conditional, and may be withdrawn upon unsatisfactory completion of course work in progress at the time of application.
Transfer Portfolio Requirements:
A portfolio of your creative design work is critical part of your admission evaluation, and will determine your studio level placement. Original architectural design, including plans, elevations and cross-sections is of primary importance, other original creative work such as rendering, and modeling, photography, graphic design, sketching, painting, and sculpture, may be included. Each example should be accompanied by a brief description including date,.
The portfolio should be 8½” X 11” format, and must contain printed material only (no slides, or CDs, or original work should be submitted). From 10 to 12 samples of work should be included. All inclusions be should be labeled with titles, dates, course, media, and assignment objective, as relevant.
Technical Standards: In addition to academic requirements, all applicants must also be able to meet the minimum Technical Standards for the program, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Application Dates and Guidelines
Applications for fall enrollment in the Architectural Design and Building program can be sent in at any time. Applications and portfolios will be reviewed beginning December 15 and acceptances given beginning January 15.
