Architectural Design and Building: Construction Management Option
Bachelor of Technology Degree

Do you dream of designing buildings or being part of a team that does? Our program features hands-on performance in studios and labs that support classroom theory. Because we offer both the AAS and BT, you have many available options. Complete the AAS and go to work in the architectural industry, for engineering or construction firms, for government agencies or building product manufacturers, or earn your design intensive pre-professional BT as preparation for graduate study, or for direct employment in the architectural field at an increased level of responsibility.

The Field

The field of architecture is an exciting blend of art, technology, history, and modern construction techniques. SUNY Delhi offers a Bachelor of Technology (B.T.) degree in Architectural Design and Building. This degree involves a 2+2 arrangement with Delhi's A.A.S. degree program in Architectural Technology. Students apply and are admitted to the A.A.S. program, and upon completion can apply for admission to the B.T. program.

Students who complete the B.T. program at Delhi also have various options. They may seek employment in an Architectural Design and Build firm as a designer, estimator, architect, or other member of an architectural design team. Or they may transfer to a Master's of Architecture degree program for further education and eventual licensing as a professional architect.

Construction Management Option

An option under the B.T. in Architectural Design and Building degree is the advisement track in Construction Management. This sequence of courses focuses on the building construction and management aspects of the industry. This option consists of a 2+2 arrangement with Delhi's A.A.S. degree program in Construction Technology. Students apply and are admitted to the A.A.S. program, and upon completion can apply for admission to the B.T. in Architectural Design and Building: Construction Management Option.

The Instructional Program

The Bachelor of Technology Architectural program at SUNY Delhi has a special focus: not only on the design, but on the building of structures. The program is a blend of architecture, construction, liberal arts, mathematics, and science courses. By completing courses in building and construction techniques, Delhi's graduates have a professional advantage over students with just an art and design background. Those who choose the Construction Management Option are prepared for mid-management positions in the construction industry.

Career Options

The market for architectural technology skills goes beyond the conventional architectural firm. Attractive employment opportunities can be found with construction companies, engineering firms, government agencies, large corporations, and building products manufacturers. SUNY Delhi's B.T. degree in Architectural Design and Building prepares graduates for immediate employment or for further study in architecture, construction engineering, and related fields.

Graduates of the Architectural Design and Building program will have a number of options. If academically qualified, they can continue their education in an NCARB-accredited Bachelor's or Master's of Architecture program en route to licensure as a professional architect. Or they may proceed directly to employment in an architecture or related firm in the fields of architecture, design/build, construction, interior design, lighting design, graphic design, manufactured housing, architectural materials, and many other design-oriented professions.

Graduates of the Construction Management Option have the opportunity for mid-management positions in the commercial construction industry. Potential positions range from planning, to production, to construction site work and include job titles such as:

Curriculum

The B.T. degree in Architectural Design and Building is a 2+2 degree that builds upon Delhi's A.A.S. degree in Architectural Technology. The Construction Management Option has the same 2+2 arrangement, but with Delhi's A.A.S. degree in Construction Technology. Students from other colleges who are majoring in Architecture, Construction Technology, or related fields can apply for admission to this program by contacting the SUNY Delhi Enrollment Services Office at 1-800-96 DELHI or 1-607-746-4355.
