ContentInternshipsFrom Dean Petrillose ...Welcome to SUNY Delhi’s information about our Business and Information Technology Internships. The Internship Program is a work experience designed to blend classroom theory with hands-on experience. In the work environment, students contribute skills, motivation and new ideas, while gaining valuable work experience in their career field. Most students seeking the opportunity of an internship are nearing the completion of their degree program and have been screened for academic eligibility. Participating students can work part-time or full-time, depending on their degree program and individual needs. An internship usually continues for 15 weeks and can be renewed or become on-going with the same or another student in the position. Work terms typically begin in September, January, or May, but are flexible to meet the needs of the employer. Although some internships may be performed on a volunteer basis, we encourage employers to offer paid opportunities, especially in technical and business-related fields. Our department offers two types of internships. One is a mandatory, 15-week, 600 hours internship for students pursuing a Bachelor of Information Technology Degree in:
The second is a variable credit internship which requires a minimum of 45 hours of work but can be more depending on the situation and need. These students would be pursuing an Associate in Applied Science Degree in:
Students must work under the supervision of a qualified internship sponsor who will assist the student in establishing learning objectives for the work experience. Arrangements for internships can be established by a written agreement signed by the student, internship sponsor, and faculty supervisor. This agreement includes a description of the duties and a definition of the learning objectives. Internships are structured educational work experiences where a student takes on a responsible role of a worker within an organization. They provide the student with an opportunity to learn new skills, expand knowledge in a particular field of study, explore career options, and apply their academic knowledge to a real-life situation. We hope our student interns will bring special skills and fresh ideas to your organization. If you are interested in providing an internship experience for one of our students, please visit our Forms for a fax request form or call 607-746-4040. Respectfully yours, Michael Petrillose, Dean |
