It is not uncommon for intelligent, capable students to enter college without having clearly defined for themselves their educational or career goals. In order to assist students who are in this situation, SUNY Delhi offers an Undeclared Option.
The Undeclared Option itself does not lead to a degree, but is designed to give students who have not yet established clear academic goals a chance to explore the educational opportunities available to them. Students in this option may defer choosing a major for a full academic year (i.e., until their sophomore year) while they explore different academic areas and receive the support they need to find a major. The Undeclared Option ensures academic integrity for deciding students while creating a map for success with intensive academic advisement.
Within a maximum of one year or 32 credits, and with the assistance of an academic advisor, a student in the Undeclared Option is required to declare a specific major and transfer to that program. Students who are unable to decide upon a major after the maximum allowance of time and/or credits will be automatically transferred to the General Studies A.A. program.
