Business and Technology Management - BBA

The Instructional Program

This hybrid curriculum provides students with the necessary applied knowledge and skills in the field of management and information technology, and builds on and complements the preparation in business administration and/or computer information systems students may already have. Students will be prepared to make strategic business decisions and to utilize a variety of information technology solutions to support the goals of an organization. Graduates will process budgeting, management, project-planning and leadership skills needed to be a global business leader.

The Bachelor in Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree program in Business and Technology Management does not replace the associate degree programs, rather it builds upon them. Students may enter as freshmen or apply for transfer into the program after earning an associate degree, providing the student meets the entry performance qualifications.  As in any field, increased levels of education and experience improve one's chances for professional and managerial advancement.

Students may participate in the Bronco Investment Group (BIG). The purposes of BIG are to learn and evaluate investment opportunities; acquire knowledge about money; use money to make money; learn to make wise decisions regarding money; and avoid major financial mistakes. BIG uses an online simulator to buy and sell stocks each week at club meetings.

Admissions Requirements

To be eligible for consideration, an applicant must:

Freshmen

• be a high school graduate with a minimum 80% overall average or a minimum 2500 GED test score
• have 75% or higher on Algebra, English, and two high school science Regents exams

Transfer students

• have a minimum 2.3 grade point average
• have previous study in computers, applications, business, or information technology
• have demonstrable command of basic computer skills and literacy

SUNY General Education Requirements: Students who intend to receive A.A., A.S., or baccalaureate degrees must satisfy SUNY and campus General Education (GE) requirements to graduate. Students should be aware that GE requirements may vary by academic program. Consult with your academic advisor. For general information, see the "General Education" section of this catalog.

A.A.S. and A.O.S. degree students may not be required to fulfill General Education (GE) requirements; however, any student who may wish to transfer should complete as many GE courses as possible. Consult with your academic advisor.

Technical Standards: In addition to academic requirements, all applicants must also be able to meet the minimum Technical Standards for the program, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Total Credit Hours = 121

Major Courses Required - 64 credit hours

General Studies/Liberal Arts Courses Required - 39 credit hours

Restricted Electives by Advisement¹ - 12 credit hours

Unrestricted Elective from Lower Division Courses - 6 credit hours

Notes

1 Restricted electives include courses with an ACCT, BUSI, or CITA prefix by advisement; 9 credits must be upper-division courses.

² English is by placement according to competency.

Student Learning Outcomes

A graduate of the Business and Technology Management B.B.A. program should be able to:

1. Evaluate the challenges and major concerns of information technology, with an emphasis on the strategic relationship between business and IT.
2. Evaluate information technology from business, managerial, and technical perspectives.
3. Demonstrate proficiency and problem solving skills through the use of computers and computational techniques.
4. Interpret technology related business problems and employ problem solving skills to create solutions.
5. Relate management theory, concept, and practice to the implementation of information technology.
6. Analyze information related to business areas including, but not limited to: financial management, business law, and management.
7. Explain business principles and how they apply to practical business applications.
   
8. Explain information technology principles and how they apply to practical business applications.
9. Produce and research a topic, develop an argument, and organize supporting details into oral and written communications.
   
10. Evaluate an oral presentation according to established criteria.
    
11. Identify how globalization and rapid changes in technology are effect the business environment.
12. Demonstrate responsible, resourceful, and ethical behavior.
