Landscape Contracting

Landscape Contracting
(SUNY Curriculum Code: 0638)

Degree Requirements Total = 69-71 hours

The Landscape Contracting program at SUNY Delhi focuses on the design and installation of residential/commercial landscapes. It also prepares students to properly maintain landscape sites. Students are exposed to surveying, drainage and grading, technical drawing, landscape construction, arboriculture, and irrigation. Students learn through design and installation landscape projects on campus and in the surrounding community.  Students also expand their experience through a required summer internship.  With assistance from their advisor, the student arranges an internship with an appropriate business or organization (i.e. landscape contractor, garden centers, arboretums, botanic gardens, etc.) Students may choose to tailor their curriculum with the intention of transferring to a Bachelor-level Landscape Architecture program. Interested students should consult with their advisor to ensure proper course selection.

Graduates of this program find opportunities in landscape design, landscape contracting, landscape production and sales and landscape equipment sales. Also, students gain extensive 'hands-on' experience in the design and installation process while in class. Delhi also has a student chapter of PLANET (Landcare Network - formerly ALCA) and we compete in national competitions each year.
