Turf Management: Internships

This program requires a summer internship which provides valuable practical experience.  This internship not only complement classroom learning, it also provides students with networking opportunities for future employment.

Students enrolled in the Turf Management AAS degree program must complete an internship during the summer of their freshman year. The Internship will be full time (40 hours per week) at a facility that is a recognized athletic field complex, residential/commercial landscape maintenance company or a related facility.  Each student must be registered in the internship class (TURF 181/182) to receive academic credit.  All internships are completed under the direction and guidance of a faculty advisor along with a qualified manager or mentor at the approved facility. Before a student is placed as an intern, the site must be reviewed and approved by the Internship Coordinator.  All initial and subsequent contact with the host facility will be made by the student with assistance from a faculty advisor and the Internship Coordinator.  Students have the opportunity to choose from numerous facilities including college or professional athletic field facilities and various related industries. Students must complete all of the internship assignment prior to graduation. By completing internship assignments, students receive on-the-job training and academic credit as outlined in each programs curriculum.

Along with the faculty advisor, the Internship Coordinator will assure that students and employers are submitting the required contracts, evaluations, and other documents on a timely basis.
