Winter Hiking Expedition

Do you love the outdoors? Like working with people? Then the Park and Outdoor Recreation program is for you. This 2-year associates degree combines content with hands-on learning, so that you are ideally positioned to work as camp counselors, expedition leaders, licensed guides, interpreters and outdoor educators. You will also find our graduates going green, working for environmental organizations and in natural resource management. While earning your degree, you will also complete the educational requirements to become certified as a Recreational Associate with the National Recreation and Park Association. A partnership with SUNY ESF/Syracuse offers a unique opportunity to concentrate in Forest Technology or Environmental Science and Forestry.

  • Construction and installation of low-ropes course elements for Margaretville Central School
  • Trail and construction projects at the SUNY Delhi Outdoor Education Center
  • Adirondack tea bench construction
  • Environmental restoration projects
  • Design and construction of a trail system for the proposed Catskill Water Discovery Center
  • Design and development of outdoor programming for the Delaware County ARC including: snowshoeing, maple sugaring, wilderness survival skills, aquatic ecology, hiking, and orienteering
  • Development and implementation of a community maple sugaring day at the Outdoor Education Center

 

 

What will I study?

Designed to meet a variety of venues, the Park and Outdoor Recreation degree prepares students for many different positions because of its flexible design. Through selected electives, students can focus their studies on work environments such as state, local, and national park systems; municipal recreation; quasi-public recreation; or commercial recreation. Regardless of the direction, students can take advantage of post-graduation employment opportunities in the field or continue on with their education. You also have the option to concentrate in Forest Technology or Environmental Science and Forestry. Learn more >
