Outdoor Class

Looking for a career in sports and recreation? Interested in teaching PE? Want to coach? Then take a closer look at our PE Studies Program. Combine your personal interest in sports and fitness with a teaching career, taking advantage of our state-of-the-art athletic and fitness facilities, pool, all weather track, and athletic fields. Earn a 2-year associates degree with us and go to work, or transfer to a four year PE program such as our special transfer partner, SUNY CortlandIn addition to the A.S. degree, the Physical Education Studies program also affords you the opportunity to gain various certifications, such as American Red Cross certifications in First Aid and CPR, Life Guard Training, and Water Safety Instruction. You may also pursue additional certifications.

  • Construction and installation of low-ropes course elements for Margaretville Central School
  • Trail and construction projects at the SUNY Delhi Outdoor Education Center
  • Adirondack tea bench construction
  • Environmental restoration projects
  • Design and construction of a trail system for the proposed Catskill Water Discovery Center
  • Design and development of outdoor programming for the Delaware County ARC including: snowshoeing, maple sugaring, wilderness survival skills, aquatic ecology, hiking, and orienteering
  • Development and implementation of a community maple sugaring day at the Outdoor Education Center

 

What will I study?

The Physical Education Studies program prepares you for either an immediate post-graduation career in sports and recreation-related fields or for transfer to baccalaureate programs in physical education. The primary intent is to prepare you for transfer to baccalaureate programs in physical-education-related endeavors such as teaching, athletic training, exercise science, sports management, or coaching. The core courses in this program emphasize theoretical and practical application of park, recreation, leisure, physical education, and natural-resource management.
