RN Program

Program Description

Delhi's Associate Degree Nursing program is designed to prepare graduates for entry-level positions as registered nurses.  In this two-year program, students learn to take personal responsibility for their patients and to make decisions with regard to the physical, psychological, spiritual and emotional needs of eachNursing Students patient.  Direct, holistic patient care is emphasized.

Clinical rotations are scheduled at primary, secondary and tertiary health care settings. The mental health component of the program gives students exposure in both acute care and community treatment programs. Graduates earn an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Nursing and are eligible to take the NCLEX examination for Registered Nurses.

Challenge Exam

Are you already an LPN? Thinking about going back to school? Would you like to be an RN in only ONE YEAR of full-time study? SUNY Delhi has a
challenge exam that will allow you to enter the second year of our program. It does not matter where you received your LPN certification.

Program Outcomes

At the completion of the Nursing program, the graduates will demonstrate the following:

  • Prepared as effective providers and managers of nursing care and members of the nursing profession and practice nursing within the parameters of the legal, ethical and regulatory framework of the NLN educational outcomes of associate degree programs and competencies.
  • Able to function in acute and long-term care settings in community based agencies, and client homes.
  • Use effective problem solving/critical thinking concepts for client care through the nursing process.
  • Incorporate principles of bio-psychosocial, behavioral science, and human systems in nursing practice.
  • Assume responsibility for the personal and professional growth and continued life-long learning.
  • Demonstrates accountability for own actions, demonstrates responsible citizenship, and functions as a responsible member of the nursing profession.
  • Promotes health, wellness, and client advocacy.
  • Functions as an accurate and safe entry level professional nurse, and as a collaborative member of the healthcare team.
  • Communicates effectively, orally, in writing, nonverbally and with the use of technology.  Establishes interpersonal relationships and interacts in a facilitative manner, reflective of value, dignity, and the worth of each individual in a culturally diverse society.
  • Assists the client to promote, restore, and maintain a high level wellness on the health-illness continuum by assessing clients physiological and psychosocial modes.  Manipulate the internal and external environments in an effort to effect a positive change to the clients position on the health-illness continuum and provide caring, therapeutic nursing intervention.
  • Provide information, support, and purposeful teaching to clients, significant others and members of the healthcare team.


Career Possibilities

Employment opportunities for registered nurses are available in acute care facilities, in industrial settings and geriatric centers, and with public and private health care agencies.


Admission Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent, with an unweighted high school average of at least 78% or GED score of 275 or better.
  • Living Environments and Mathematics A with a minimum grade of 75 or better on Regents.
  • High school chemistry is strongly recommended.
  • An on-campus interview is recommended.
  • Each student must submit to the College Health Center a current immunization record (including Hepatitis B vaccine), the results of a physical examination and the results of required lab testing.
  • Professional Rescuer Certification in CPR (American Red Cross or American Heart Association Course C).

Degree Requirements: 69 credit hours, a grade of C+ or 75 (2.33) or better in each nursing course, a grade of C or 70 (2.0) or better in all other required courses, and a Pass in all clinical courses.
