APA Resources

Getting Started in APA - This short presentation is a good starting place to learn the basics needed to begin setting up your paper in APA style.  Use the other APA resources here to expand your knowledge of APA beyond the basics.

Headings and Headers - Headings and headers are two different things.  This short presentation will explain the differences and show you how to format them correctly for your paper.

Abbreviations - Everyone loves a shortcut.  However, using abbreviations in APA requires special consideration.  Before taking advantage of this little timesaver, review this presentation to ensure you use them properly.

Numbers - APA's rules for the use of numbers are nitpicky at best.  Use this presentation to help you determine when you should write the number as a word, or state it as a numeral.

Seriation - A fancy way of saying to position a list of items in a series.  APA provides three ways to do this.  Use this presentation to determine which format is best for your use.

Citations - Your defense against plagiarism!  Use this presentation to learn how to successfully use citations and how to properly format them.

More on Citations - Another resource to supplement the Citations presentation.

References - Probably the most tedious part of APA, references require patience and a keen eye.  There are as many reference formats as there are sources.  This presentation will show you the basic components of a reference, and how to determine the best format for your source.

Grammar - You probably learned grammar in grammar school, but not the APA way!  Use this presentation to help you navigate grammar APA style.

Good Writing Tips - If you haven't written in 20 years, stop worrying.  This document will help ease your anxiety by helping you understand how to start again.  This document also briefly discusses PowerPoint presentations.
