September 28, 2009

Meeting called to order by Presider, Julee Miller

 Quorum established at 4:21 p.m.

Senators Present: Jack Burgess, Donna Dougherty, Cindy Elston, Susan Greenwood, Terry Hamblin, Kathleen Ogborn, Penny Pardoe, Thomas Philion, Tassha Rathbone, Angela Rhodes, Shannon Shoemaker, Jeff Stedman, Jack Tessier, Mary Wake

 Absent: Glenda Bolton, David Brower, Kim MacLeod, Clark Nelson, Jennifer Smith, John Taylor, Allen Wachter, Linda Weinberg

 Guest: Lori Osterhoudt

H1N1 Update

• College has a pandemic flu plan as a contingency plan

• Frequent communication with public health officials

• Focused on prevention

o Health Fair on Sept. 17 to provide information to students

o Doubled the order of seasonal flu vaccine

o Please encourage student s to go to the health center

o Share trends of absences with health center

o Health center can verify if a student has been seen

Motion to accept September 14th minutes, A. Rhodes; seconded, T. Hamblin; abstention, P. Pardoe

Campus Common Hour

• Learning Center is in agreement

• Hospitality is in agreement but doesn’t want to be compelled to attend; sees this as an opportunity to get together

• Liberal Arts has a mixed response

• Nursing is interested in a fitness hour focus or a journaling club

• Task force to shape the idea of a common hour that the faculty can support; provide recommendations; a brief statement that describes if we like it or not; P. Pardoe will write a recommendation that will be sent around to go back to functional areas

Confluence

• A. Rhodes will help Presider with Confluence to create a space for others to make comments about concerns or questions brought to the Senate

Committee Volunteers

• Please promote committee volunteers to your functional area

• E-mail the Presider if interested

• Presider to send e-mail link to Chancellor Committee page and Distinguished Professor criteria
