The minutes from the September 24th meeting were approved.

Annual Budget and Planning Committee Membership:

• Discussion and proposed change to Article XIV Section 5 of the Senate bylaws.
  It was suggested that there be a total of 12 members representing each of the following areas:

  • CIS
  • Facilities
  • Cabinet (a Cabinet Liaison)
  • Campus Budget (someone from Brian Hutzley's office)
  • Student Life
  • CADI
  • CSEA
  • 4 Academic Divisions
  • Academic Services (Resnick Learning Center)
• Proposal changes to be voted on at next Senate meeting

Bookstore Plans

• Brian Hutzley and Pat Heath were present to address issues concerning the current negotiations with Barnes and Noble to contract the running of the bookstore.
• There is an open forum on October 24th, at 4 p.m. in the Little Theater for the campus community.

• Question regarding the timeline for the signing of a contract and conversion of the store.

  • Signing of a contract to occur in early November
  • Conversion to Barnes and Noble for the Spring of 2008
• Question regarding the use of e-books
• Continuing conversation with Barnes and Noble
• Question on the impact of giveaways 
•  Not required to purchase from Barnes and Noble

ATAC/ADTAC Mission

• Discussion on the need for a peer review process (a neutral evaluation) important to get a broader view

• Discussion on improving the budget for technology

  • research and survey on student based needs
  • long term needs-types of services offered, automation of processes

• Discussion on merging ATAC and ADTAC

  • one committee to look at the needs of faculty and staff
  • one Senate committee to include faculty, staff and students
  • need to create a mission statement for a combined committee
  • should include an evaluation team to review formal requests from faculty and staff through specific guidelines
  • committee not deciding on how to allocate but they help make recommendations
• Note by M. Stock to table this discussion at this time.

Plenary Issues

• T. Hamblin related that he will be attending a SUNY Senate meeting in Cortland
  forward any SUNY wide issues that you may have to T. Hamblin
• T. Hamblin will check on the SUNY guidelines for internships

Chancellor Awards

• Need to fill the following committees

  • Student Excellence: Lori Osterhoudt
  • Excellence in Teaching and Distinguished Professorship: Julee Miller
  • Excellence in Professional Service: Bonnie Martin
  • Faculty Service, Scholarship and Creative Activity, Librarianship: Dr. Lynn Domina
• If you know of anyone interested in serving have them contact the chair for the committee they would like to serve on
• Presider will send out a list of committees and chairs

The following agenda items were tabled for future meetings:

• Attendance Policy.
• Syllabus "Rollover" vs. "Cut and Paste"
• Addition of the "XF grade
