Delhi College Senate Minutes October 27th, 2008
Meeting called to order by Presider, Julee Miller
Quorum established at 4:15 p.m.
Senators Present:
David Brower, Jack Burgess, Donna Dougherty, Terry Hamblin, Kim MacLeod, Barrett Meckel, Clark Nelson, Kathleen Ogborn, Thomas Philion, Shannon Shoemaker, Jennifer Smith, Jeff Stedman, Jack Tessier, Carolyn Tolley, Allen Wachter, Mary Wake, Linda Weinberg

President's Report
- Budget-no new information
- Saving on energy-spent $4 million on energy costs last year; trying to find ways to reduce use and spending
- May be a little colder in buildings
- Will try using half of the lights in the hallways to reduce consumption
- Not filling staff and faculty vacancies
- Travel is being restricted
- Asking staff and faculty to voluntarily cut hours
- Committed to:
- Maintaining high quality services
- Retaining long-term, full-time employees
- Received a $26,000 donation from the Alumni Association
- Possible tuition increase for next year
- Downtown difficulties-community concerned with increased disturbances from students.
- B. Jones and J. Smith have been asked to participate on a community task force with the village mayor
- Only 47 more students on campus compared to last year
- Enrollment up seven percent; growth at SCCC and online; all time record enrollment
- Selectivity for freshman has improved
- Riverview-no difficulties; students are happy
- Baking lab has been launched
- Farrell Hall-needs to be empty by December 20th to begin renovations
- Will transition to Thurston
- President concerned with long lines at food service areas and will look into making improvements
- DC4-A new building will be built at the valley campus to double the capacity and provide more outside areas for the children; currently in the design phase
- Considering a million dollar master plan process to look at pulling he campus architecture together
- Alternative energy-looking at the flat roof lines and the use of photovoltaic cells to be used to heat hot water in the buildings
- National Honor Society-- Valerie Outsen has won a $1,000 Phi Eta Sigma national scholarship
- No news on the search for a new Chancellor
The minutes from the September 22, 2008 meeting were approved.
IAB approvals
- New members: Michael Schmidt (student), Douglass Henningson (student), Robert Leary (coach); Motion, seconded and approved
- Promotion Committee-the Technology division has elected Nancy MacDonald as their representative; Motion, seconded and approved
- Academic Policy committee-Nancy Smith has joined the committee in the capacity of ex-officio in her capacity as Registrar; follows past precedent; Motion, seconded and approved
- Promotion and Term appointment term limits-discuss with your functional area; K. MacLeod and presider to work on draft document
- Curriculum Committee-no new minutes received
- Review Plenary Resolutions; to be discussed at next meeting. Read the e-mailed resolutions to determine if there are any you feel the Senate should support; can also consider changes that you would like to see or sections that may need to be omitted
