DELHI COLLEGE SENATE MEETING MINUTES

November 13, 2006

Meeting called to order by Associate Presider Lori Osterhoudt

Quorum established at 4:15 p.m.

Present: Senators:  Linnea Burwood, Kathryn DeZur, Steve Dixon, Donna Dougherty, Douglas Dune, Joan Erickson, Terry Hamblin, Leslie Mokay, Kathleen Ogborn, Lori Osterhoudt, Manly Shults, Mike Spisto, Jeff Stedman, Marsha Stock, John Taylor, Carolyn Tolley, Mary Wake, Linda Weinberg

Absent:  Sean Babcock, Robert Fisher, Ursula Herz, Kim MacLeod, Julee Miller, Tom Recinella

The minutes from the October 23, 2006 meeting were approved.

By-Laws

Manly Shults moved to accept the following changes to the By-Laws, Kathryn DeZur seconded the motion and voting showed all in favor:

• To change Dean of Information Services to Chief Information Officer in Article XIV Section A, B, and C.
• To add the Coordinator of Online Instruction to the ATAC Committee.
• Addition of Innovative Academic Initiatives Committee as a Senate External Committee.  Membership:  The Chief Academic Officer and a representative from each of the following:  each Academic Division, Enrollment Services, Records and Registration.  Other members may be added as needed.

Integrity Task Force Report

• This report has been tabled as the group is not yet ready to present their report.

University Faculty Senate Report

John Taylor reported on the plenary session held at Buffalo State College. 

•  New Provost and new Assistant Provost were in attendance. 
• Discussion on an initiative to make all campuses smoke-free. 
• Assistant Provost gave a presentation on an elementary education initiative she is heading.

• Four resolutions were passed:

  • To support the addition of representation of community colleges on SUNY Board of Trustees
  • Awards Committee for a Senator Emeritus Award, and University Faculty Senate Fellowship Award. More information on these awards on the website.
  • From Operations Committee, SUNY access to electronic data bases.
  • From the Governance Committee: that a program be developed at SUNY Central to mentor new campus presidents.

Announcements

• December Commencement is Friday, December 15th at 3:00 p.m. in the Farrell Hall Little Theater.
• The Student Chancellor's Award Committee is seeking nominations for the 2006-2007 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence. Eligible students must have strong academic credentials as well as have made significant contributions to the campus community, including leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts, entrepreneurship, or career achievement. Deadline is Monday, December 4, 2006.
