What is Transfer Credit and How Do I Receive It?

Transfer credit is the evaluation or prior learning in the form of college courses, test scores, and exams being reviewed for consideration of official college credit.

Freshmen/Transfer Students

Freshmen who complete college level course work while in high school must submit official transcripts from the college or university that issued the college credit and/or official score results with final high school transcript in order to receive credit. Transcripts and score reports must be submitted directly to SUNY Delhi. They cannot be opened by the student and then forwarded.

SUNY Delhi will award college credit based on test scores in the following:

• Advanced Placement (AP) program
• College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
• International Baccalaureate (IB) Program

Transfer credit evaluations are not final until official college transcripts and/or score reports for college level examinations (AP, CLEP, IB, etc.) are received.

Transfer Students/International

Students who complete college level course work must submit official transcripts and/or score results with final high school transcript in order to receive credit.  

Any transcripts from colleges or universities outside of the United States must be in English and evaluated by a Credential Evaluation Service, such as World Education Services:

The academic policy regarding transfer credit is as follows:

• Age of transfer coursework:
  • Undergraduate transfer coursework older than 10 years must be approved by your Academic Division
  • Graduate transfer coursework must be taken less than 5 years prior to matriculating.
• Transfer coursework is not calculated in your SUNY Delhi GPA.
• Coursework based on a quarter system will only receive 2 semester hours of transfer credit for every 3 quarter hours earned.
• Transfer credit maximums:
  • To earn an associate degree at SUNY Delhi, students must complete a minimum of 50% of credits in residence toward the degree, half of which must be in the major.
  • To earn a baccalaureate degree at SUNY Delhi, students must complete a minimum of 25% of credits in residence toward the degree, half of which must be within the major. Remaining credits transferred from another institution must be approved by SUNY Delhi in order to count toward the degree requirements.
  • To earn a graduate degree at SUNY Delhi, students may transfer in a maximum of 12 graduate-level course credits. Post-matriculation graduate transfer coursework must be approved prior to enrolling at the other institution.
• Coursework must be from an accredited institution. We accept regional accreditation, national accreditation, and ACE recommendations.

Course Equivalency and Minimum Grades:

For transfer students, courses of equivalent quality and content taken at other accredited institutions are acceptable for transfer credit with the following stipulations:

• Freshman Composition (ENGL 100), or its equivalent, will transfer with a grade of at least "C."
• Following Academic School approval, courses with a grade of "D" will be accepted for transfer credit only if all the courses being accepted for transfer average a "C" (2.00) or better.
• The School of Nursing mandates that students receive at least a "C" (or 70 from colleges using numerical grades) in non-nursing courses and a "C+" (or 75 from colleges using numerical grades) in nursing courses.
• The Veterinary Science and Applied Technology programs will only accept a "C" or better in Liberal Arts and General Studies courses and a "C+" or better in Veterinary Science courses.
• Graduate transfer courses must have at least a grade of "B."

How to View my Transfer Evaluation

Students may view the results of their transfer credit evaluation by logging into Bronco Web and generating an unofficial transcript approximately two weeks after acceptance.

• Log in to Bronco Web and go to Student > Student Records > Academic Transcript to view your unofficial transcript, which will list your transfer credit by institution.
• Log in to Degree Works and see which degree requirements are met by transfer coursework.

Appealing Transfer Credit

Students who wish to appeal the results of their transfer credit evaluation may submit a Transfer Credit Student Appeal form (pdf).
