The Masson Scholarship for Openness

The Masson Scholarship for Openness recognizes one SUNY Delhi student per year for their interest and contributions in open-source technologies or other openness-related areas.

Award Amount

$500 per year, awarded in the fall, with half paid in fall and half paid in spring

Application deadline

June 15 for the upcoming school year

Eligibility

  • Provide evidence of activities or academic interest in open-source technology or openness
  • Interests in software, web/internet, or hardware will also be considered
  • Fully online students or students enrolled in online courses are preferred
  • Enrolled as a full-time student at SUNY Delhi in good standing

How to apply

Scholarship applicants must submit a one-page essay with a description of proposed activities on the topic, along with a letter of recommendation, no later than June 15 to the College Advancement Office in Bush Hall, or by email to scholarships@delhi.edu. The scholarship recipient will also sign a scholarship acceptance notice.

What is Openness?

Here are some examples of projects focused on openness.

  • Exploring how the student governance at SUNY Delhi could include open-source technology (such as a wiki to document policies, committees and facilitate discussions and governance decision-making).
  • Research how open technology/social media can be used in education.
  • Document how our faculty view open-access publishing and/or its impact on their own scholarly publishing.
  • Start an open-access journal for students (at Delhi, in SUNY, multi-disciplinary or for specific discipline).
  • Research the use of crowd sourcing/trending in hospitality research through open source software.
  • Look at the use of open textbooks/multimedia collaborative textbooks at Delhi or other schools.
  • Create a tool to promote/allow open communications/technology/productivity.
