Adirondack tops Delhi in semi-finals of MVC Tournament – 10/26/13

#1 seed SUNY Adirondack won its semi-final Mountain Valley Conference Tournament match over #4 seed SUNY Delhi by the scores of 25-12, 25-19, and 25-23. While the Lady Broncos performance was better than the last time these teams met, it wasn’t enough for the upset win.

Casey Haughney led Delhi with 8 digs, 7 kills, and 3 aces, while Raven Worthing had 19 digs, 3 kills, and 1 ace.

Worthing was also selected as the 2013 Mountain Valley Conference Co-Player of the year, along with Herkimer County CC’s Brynn Hlozansky.

SUNY Delhi finishes the 2013 season with a final record of 11-21.

Broncos falter at Corning POD – 10/19/13

Sitting at 6-8 in Region 3, the SUNY Delhi Volleyball Team had an opportunity to qualify for regionals with three match victories at the Corning POD. Unfortunately, the Lady Broncos didn’t meet the challenge, and fell in all three matches.

Delhi dropped a straight sets match to Monroe Community College to open the day. The Lady Tribunes won by the scores of 25-10, 25-12, and 25-17. The remainder of the day didn’t bode well for Delhi, as they lost to Finger Lakes Community College 3-0 (25-11, 25-11, 25-15), as well as to the host team, Corning Community College 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-11).

Nicole DeMarco led the Lady Broncos with 35 digs, 15 kills, and 3 blocks. Raven Worthing had 31 digs, 7 kills, and 3 aces, while Hailie Chandler chipped in with 9 kills, 9 digs, and 6 blocks.

Delhi finished Region 3 play with a record of 6-11.

Delhi wins final two matches at home – 10/16/13

After losing seven straight matches on the road, the Lady Broncos returned to the Clark Field House and the Maines Arena to host Hudson Valley Community College and Elmira College JV. Delhi got off to a strong start by sweeping the the Lady Vikings 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-18). Delhi was led by Casey Haughney (14 digs, 7 kills) and Nicole DeMarco (8 kills, 5 digs).

The second match saw SUNY Delhi eliminate Elmira College’s JV squad in straight sets, 25-5, 25-10, 25-4. Raven Worthing finished with 8 digs, 5 kills, and 3 aces, while Hailie Chandler had 6 aces and 3 kills.

With the win over HVCC, Delhi finished at 3-3 in conference play, and will be the #4 seed for the Mountain Valley Conference Championship Tournament.

Volleyball team drops five matches at Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament – 10/11 & 10/12/13

The women’s volleyball team participated in the eight team Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament, only to come away with five match losses on the weekend. Delhi opened the first day of pool play losing both matches to Monroe CC and Finger Lakes CC by the score of 2-0.

Delhi didn’t fare much better on day two, losing their next two pool play matches by the scores of 2-0 to Herkimer County CC and Onondaga CC. Following pool play, Delhi was seeded #7 and played a quarter-final match versus Jefferson Community College. The Lady Cannoneers won the match by the scores of 25-16 and 25-12.

Hailie Chandler led the Broncos with 13 kills, 24 digs, and 4 blocks, and was selected to the all-tournament team.

Timberwolves top Broncos – 10/9/13

SUNY Adirondack visited SUNY Delhi and came away with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-11) Mountain Valley Conference women’s volleyball victory. The Lady Broncos could never get on track and were thoroughly controlled by the Lady Timberwolves. Hailie Chandler led Delhi with 5 kills, 3 digs, and 1 block.  The loss dropped Delhi to 2-3 in conference play.

Delhi goes 1-2 at TC3 POD – 10/5/13

In the opening match of the day, Delhi was defeated by Jamestown Community College 3-0 (25-8, 25-17, 25-7). JCC kept the Lady Broncos off balance with their strong serves, never letting the team get into a rhythm. Raven Worthing paced the Broncos with 8 digs and 4 kills.

The next match saw Delhi jump out to a 14-4 lead versus Erie Community College, only to see the Kats end the first set on a 22-10 run to finish the set 26-24, and jump out to a 1-0 lead. However, the Lady Broncos responded by taking the next three sets (25-17, 25-21, 25-21) to win the match. Nicole DeMarco led the attack with 8 kills, Hailie Chandler controlled the net with 7 blocks, and Raven Worthing paced the defense with 22 digs.

In the final match, Delhi faced off against Niagara County Community College, and suffered a straight sets loss, 25-19, 25-14, 25-15. Nicole DeMarco led Delhi with 6 kills.

Volleyball team cages Panthers – 10/1/13

The Lady Broncos took a Region III match by defeating visiting Tompkins-Cortland Community College in straight sets (25-8, 25-11, 25-21). Trailing 10-2 in the second set, the team went on a strong run and outscored TC3 23-1. Hailie Chandler was strong at the net, recording 8 kills to go along with 9 digs.

Raven Worthing controlled the defense, tallying 13 digs, 4 kills, and 4 aces, while Karissa Morey ran the attack and dished out 23 assists.

Lady Broncos take two at Broome POD – 9/28/13

Delhi sandwiched a loss to SUNY Adirondack with match victories over Hudson Valley Community College and Columbia-Greene Community College.

Led by Karissa Morey (20 assists, 7 digs) and Raven Worthing (13 kills, 13 digs, 4 aces), the Lady Broncos took a straight set victory 25-13, 25-17, and 25-15. Hailie Chandler (8 kills, 8 digs) and Nicole DeMarco (9 kills, 2 aces) also performed well for Delhi.

SUNY Adirondack defeated Delhi 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-15) in the second match of the day.

Delhi then defeated fellow Mountain Valley Conference opponent, Columbia-Greene Community College, by the scores of 25-9, 25-8, and 25-10. Casey Haughney chipped in 7 assists and 4 kills for the Lady Broncos. Karissa Morey (6 kills, 5 assists, 3 aces) and Raven Worthing (12 aces, 6 kills) also had strong matches.

Herkimer drops Delhi to 2-2 in conference standings – 9/25/13

Facing a tough test, and a tough crowd, the women’s volleyball team suffered a straight sets loss to Herkimer. The Lady Generals took an exciting opening set by the score of 25-19, and followed that up with a 25-11 victory in the second set. The Lady Broncos put together a couple different runs in the third set to take a late lead, but HCCC responded and closed out the set and match with a 25-21 win.

Raven Worthing led all Broncos with 9 digs and 5 kills.

Tough outing for Delhi at FMCC POD – 9/22/13

The SUNY Delhi volleyball team experienced a rough go of it in their first two matches, losing in straight sets to Herkimer County Community College, as well as to Fulton-Montgomery Community College.

Delhi played a strong first set versus HCCC, but lost 25-19. The Lady Generals never gave the Lady Broncos a chance in the next two sets, winning 25-8 and 25-9. Playing on their home court, FMCC won the first two sets by the score of 25-19, and finished the match by taking the third set 25-9.

In the final match of the day, Delhi jumped out to a 2-0 lead over Mohawk Valley Community College, only to see the Lady Hawks take the next two sets and force a deciding fifth set. Led by Nicole DeMarco (12 kills, 12 digs) and Hailie Chandler (9 digs, 4 kills, 5 blocks), Delhi won the deciding set by a score of 15-9. Also chipping in for the Broncos were Raven Worthing (12 digs, 10 kills, 4 aces) and Karissa Morey (22 assists, 10 kills).

Delhi wins second conference match – 9/18/13

The women’s volleyball lost the first set of the match to Mohawk Valley Community College by the score of 25-22, but stormed back to win three straight sets and take home the road victory. Delhi outscored the Lady Hawks 25-13, 25-17, and 25-18 to take the match. Leading the way were Nicole DeMarco (12 digs, 10 kills), Karissa Morey (14 assists, 5 aces), and Raven Worthing (21 digs, 4 aces).

The Lady Broncos improved their conference record to 2-1.

Broncos corralled at Onondaga POD – 9/14/13

SUNY Delhi began the day by defeating Cayuga Community College, but then dropped consecutive matches to Jefferson Community College and Onondaga Community College. In the opening match of the day, the Lady Broncos swept the Lady Spartans 25-22, 25-16, and 25-16. Nicole DeMarco led the attack with 13 kills and 11 digs, while Casey Haughney dished out 15 assists to go along with her 5 kills and 4 aces. Raven Worthing finished with 13 digs and 7 kills.

Jefferson Community College picked up a straight set victory in the second match, beating Delhi by the scores of 25-16, 25-18, and 25-20. Raven Worthing (15 digs, 3 kills) and Karissa Morey (13 assists, 2 aces) led the Lady Broncos.

The final match of the day saw Delhi suffer another defeat, losing to the Lazers in convincing fashion, 25-16, 25-12, and 25-13.

Volleyball team evens up Mountain Valley Conference record – 9/11/13

Delhi traveled to Hudson, NY to take on Columbia-Greene Community College and came away in convincing fashion with a three sets to none victory. The Lady Broncos swept the Twins by scores of 25-7, 25-9, and 25-6.

Nicole DeMarco led the offense by tallying 9 kills on 11 attacks, for a 72% hitting percentage. Raven Worthing dominated the service line, and finished the match with 12 aces. The victory helped Delhi even their conference record at 1-1.

Lady Broncos suffer two match setbacks – 9/7/13

The Maines Arena was host to a tri-match that involved Region III programs SUNY Delhi and Broome Community College, as well as Region XV representative, Hostos Community College.

In the first match of the day, Delhi started off by taking the opening set from BCC by the score of 28-26. The Lady Hornets rebounded by taking set two 25-22. In a back and forth third set, Broome pulled out a hard fought 27-25 win. The fourth set saw BCC control the net and pull away to win 27-25, and take the match 3-1.

Sophomore Hailie Chandler led the attack with 12 kills, while Raven Worthing solidified the defense with 16 digs.

In their second match of the day, Delhi faced off with Hostos Community College. The Lady Broncos got off to a strong start, and took the opening two sets by the scores of 25-19 and 25-13. However, a determined HCC team, fought back and kept the match going by taking the third set, 25-21. The Lady Caimans took the momentum and set four by the score of 25-19. Delhi began the fifth and deciding set by jumping out to a 5-1 lead, but Hostos went on a 14-6 run, which gave them a 15-11 set win and saw them come back to win 3 sets to 2.

Delhi had solid play from Karissa Morey, who finished with 15 assists, 7 digs, and 2 aces.

Delhi Volleyball opens 2013 season with a split - 9/4/13

The SUNY Delhi Women’s Volleyball Team started the season versus Mountain Valley Conference opponent Fulton-Montgomery Community College. The team got off to a strong start and took the first set 25-18. FMCC battled back and came away with a 25-22 win in the second set. The next two sets saw both teams battling for every point, but the visiting Lady Raiders took both sets by the score of 26-24, and won the match 3-1. Delhi was led by sophomore Raven Worthing, who contributed 18 digs, 9 kills, and 3 blocks. Hailie Chandler (10 kills, 8 digs) and Nicole DeMarco (8 kills, 7 digs) also had strong performances.

In the second match of the evening, Delhi picked up their first win of the season by defeating Davis College 3-0. Freshman setter Karissa Morey paced the Lady Broncos with 15 aces, while Hailie Chandler led the attack with 7 kills.
