Spikers pick up two more Region III victories – 9/27/14

Delhi traveled to Hudson, NY and came away with two wins and one loss against Region III opponents.

The Broncos opened the day against the home team Twins of Columbia-Greene CC, winning in straight sets, 25-15, 25-21, and 25-9. Joy Clark (West Hempstead, NY – West Hempstead HS) had 20 assists and 4 aces, while Jaquie Zubizarreta (Bayshore, NY – Brentwood HS) had 6 kills and 4 aces. The attack was led by Nicole DeMarco (Gansevoort, NY – Schuylerville HS) and Emily Wells (Binghamton, NY – Chenango Valley HS) who each had 9 kills.

In the second match, Delhi handed Mountain Valley foe Hudson Valley CC the loss by the scores of 25-9, 25-7, and 25-18. Donette Hutchison (Barton, NY – Tioga HS) led the team with 7 digs and 5 aces, while DeMarco knocked down 7 kills to go along with 7 digs.

The day ended with a tough defeat to the Timberwolves of SUNY Adirondack. Delhi played well in the first two sets, losing both by the score of 25-21, but Adirondack played a strong third set, and ended the match with a 25-8 win. DeMarco (6 digs, 4 kills, 3 blocks) and Hutchison (15 digs, 1 aces) were statistical leaders for Delhi.    

 

Broncos win Double Header – 9/24/14

The women’s volleyball team had a home double header versus Herkimer County CC and the Elmira College JV team, earning victories against both opponents.

Delhi opened the evening versus HCCC, taking the match by the scores of 25-11, 25-9, and 25-18. Casey Haughney (Melrose, NY – Hoosic Valley HS) led the attack with 7 kills, 10 digs, and 1 ace, while Joy Clark (West Hempstead, NY – West Hempstead HS) finished with 13 assists, 8 aces, and 3 kills.

In the match versus the Soaring Eagles, the Lady Broncos outscored their opponent 25-6, 25-8, and 25-12. Nicole DeMarco (Gansevoort, NY – Schuylerville HS) had 6 kills and 2 aces, while Emily Wells (Binghamton, NY – Chenango Valley HS) had 5 kills and 1 block. Clark led the team with 12 aces at the service line, while dishing out 11 assists.

 

Volleyball team takes 2 of 3 at TC3 POD – 9/20/14

Delhi’s first match of the day was against Mohawk Valley CC, whom they had just won a three set decision over earlier in the week. With a strong performance, the results in Dryden, NY were the same, as Delhi took all three sets by the scores of 25-16, 25-11, and 25-12.

Delhi was led by Nicole DeMarco (Gansevoort, NY – Schuylerville HS) with14 kills and 11 digs. Joy Clark (West Hempstead, NY – West Hempstead HS) dished out 31 assists, while Donette Hutchison (Barton, NY – Tioga HS) had 20 digs and 2 aces. Kimberly Sammon (Melville, NY – Walt Whitman HS) had 5 kills.

In the second match of the day, Delhi met a strong Fulton-Montgomery Community College team, and lost in straight sets (25-14, 25-17, 25-10). Casey Haughney (Melrose, NY – Hoosic Valley HS) had 25 digs and 3 kills, while Hutchison finished with 21 digs and 2 aces.

The Broncos met Mountain Valley Conference rival Herkimer County Community College in the final match of the day, defeating the Generals by the scores of 25-13, 25-16, and 25-18. Haughney (8 kills, 17 digs, 3 aces) and Clark (22 assists, 3 aces) led the way, while Emily Wells (Binghamton, NY – Chenango Valley HS) chipped in with 4 kills and 1 block.     

 

Broncos defeat Hawks – 9/17/14

The women’s volleyball team won their second conference match of the season by defeating Mohawk Valley Community College in three sets.

Delhi controlled the first set, and took the win 25-16. After falling behind 8-2 in the second set, the Broncos settled in and outscored the Hawks 23-8, to take the 25-16 victory.

Two six point service runs by Nicole DeMarco (Gansevoort, NY – Schuylerville HS) and Kimberly Sammon (Melville, NY – Walt Whitman HS) led Delhi to a decisive 25-10 third set victory.

DeMarco tallied 10 kills and 17 digs, while Joy Clark (West Hempstead, NY – West Hempstead HS) had 25 assists and 3 kills. Donette Hutchison (Barton, NY – Tioga HS) finished with 18 digs, 2 aces, and 1 kill.

Delhi finishes 2-1 at Broome POD – 9/13/14

The volleyball team had a strong outing at their first Region III POD event, taking two of three matches on the day.

The Broncos opened by defeating Cayuga Community College in three sets (25-15, 25-17, 25-16). Donette Hutchison (Barton, NY – Tioga HS) led the defense and service reception, and finished with 16 digs. Nicole DeMarco (Gansevoort, NY – Schuylerville HS) led the offense with 8 kills, while Joy Clark (West Hempstead, NY – West Hempstead HS) dished out 20 assists and had 5 service aces.

Delhi suffered a setback in the second match of the day, losing to Jefferson Community College 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-17). Hutchison had 21 digs, Clark finished with 21 assists, and Casey Haughney (Melrose, NY – Hoosic Valley HS) had 14 digs and 7 kills.

In the final match of the day, Delhi came away with a thrilling five set victory over Onondaga Community College (25-21, 19-25, 26-24, 16-25, 15-5). After both teams flip flopped the first four sets, Haughney (30 digs, 9 kills, 2 aces) went on a 10 point service run during the decisive fifth set. DeMarco hit 47% on the match, finishing with 21 kills on 42 attacks. Hutchison had 29 digs and 2 aces, while Clark controlled the offensive attack by dishing out 39 assists.

 

Lady Broncos win Mountain Valley Conference opener – 9/10/14

Delhi played the Columbia-Greene Community College Twins for both teams first conference match of the season, and the Broncos came away with the straight set victory, winning 25-11, 25-6, and 25-11. Delhi’s serving was on, as the team tallied 23 aces.

Joy Clark (West Hempstead, NY – West Hempstead HS) led Delhi with 13 assists and 8 service aces. Nicole DeMarco (Gansevoort, NY – Schuylerville HS) finished with 5 kills and 4 digs, while Jaquie Zubizarreta (Bayshore, NY – Brentwood HS) had 7 aces and 3 kills.

 

Delhi drops two matches – 9/6/14

Delhi traveled to Broome Community College to take on the host Hornets, as well as the Caimans from Hostos Community College.

In the first match, the Lady Broncos never got into a rhythm, losing in straight sets (19-25, 11-25, 21-25). Nicole DeMarco (Gansevoort, NY – Schuylerville HS) led with 9 digs and 7 kills, while Donette Hutchison (Barton, NY – Tioga HS) chipped in with 19 digs.

Delhi came out strong in the next match versus Hostos CC, taking the first two sets by the scores of 25-17 and 25-18. But Hostos CC rallied back, winning the next three sets (25-22, 25-13, 15-9) and the match.

Statistical leaders for Delhi included Casey Haughney (Melrose, NY – Hoosic Valley HS) with 6 kills, 6 digs, and 2 aces, Joy Clark (West Hempstead, NY – West Hempstead HS) with 24 assists, 5 kills, and 5 aces, and Hutchison with 18 digs, 5 kills, and 3 aces.

 

Volleyball team wins opener at Davis College – 9/4/14

The women’s volleyball team quickly fell behind 8-0 in the first set at Davis College, but began to put things together as the set progressed. Delhi led 24-23 and served for the opening set victory, but Davis earned a side out and took the set win, 26-24.

Led by Jaquie Zubizarreta’s (Bayshore, NY – Brentwood HS) serving, Delhi began to settle in and took set two by the score of 25-21. The Lady Broncos stayed on the attack and finished set three with a 25-21 decision.

Delhi played its strongest volleyball in the fourth set, not allowing Davis to get back into the match and winning 25-13.

Statistical leaders for Delhi included Nicole DeMarco (Gansevoort, NY – Schuylerville HS) with 9 kills, 12 digs, and 2 blocks, Zubizarreta with 13 aces, Donette Hutchison (Barton, NY – Tioga HS) with 21 digs, 3 aces, and Joy Clark (West Hempstead, NY – West Hempstead HS) with 18 assists.
