Broncos finish 2012 season with victory at Hudson Valley – 10/17/12

Delhi traveled to Troy, NY to play HVCC in a rematch of two Mountain Valley Conference teams from the previous POD weekend. The Lady Broncos were able to avenge their previous loss to the Lady Vikings by taking a 3 sets to 1 victory (25-13, 25-16, 24-26, 25-18) and finished the season with a 10-18 record.

The team was led by their three seniors, Victoria Baxendale (41 assists, 2 aces, 1block), Emily Miller (15 kills, 4 blocks), and Shelby Trimboli (6 kills). Freshmen Hailie Chandler (13 kills, 3 blocks) and Raven Worthing (8 kills, 7 digs) also played well.

Victoria Baxendale finished the season with 595 assists, which brought her career total to 1,348 which ranks her second all-time at Delhi. Baxendale also finished with 47 aces improving her career total to 105, which is also second all-time, and her 24 blocks pushed her career total to 56, which is fourth all-time.

Emily Miller finished the season with 47 blocks, pushing her career total to 130, which is the highest in Delhi history. Miller’s 159 kills this season improved her career total to 389, placing her second all-time.  

Delhi hosts and splits at POD – 10/13/12

The Maines Arena played host to Regional POD play between all seven volleyball programs from the Mountain Valley Conference. SUNY Delhi came out strong against Hudson Valley CC, taking the first set 25-20. The Lady Vikings responded, taking set two by the score of 25-19. That win seemed to give momentum to HVCC, as Delhi could never get back into rhythm. Hudson Valley won the match by taking set three 25-18 and set four 25-22. Victoria Baxendale set the ball well and finished with 22 assists, while Sarah Piana led the attack with 6 kills.

In the second match of the day, SUNY Adirondack took all three sets (25-19, 25-16, 25-9) to earn the victory against Delhi. Emily Miller had 7 kills, Victoria Baxendale had 15 assists, and Raven Worthing tallied 13 digs.

The Lady Broncos fared better in their next match, winning by the score of 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-15) over Columbia-Greene CC. Delhi’s offensive attack proved too strong for CGCC, as Kelly McBreairty (9 kills, 8 digs, 2 aces) and Emily Miller (8 kills, 4 blocks) led the way.

Delhi finished the day with a victory over Fulton-Montgomery CC. Trailing most of the way in the first set, the Lady Broncos worked together to take a 29-27 win. The Lady Raiders responded in the second set, pulling out a 25-22 win. In the third and fourth sets, Delhi’s service and attack held FMCC at bay, helping them win the match 25-17 and 25-18. Middle hitter Emily Miller finished the match with 13 kills, 11 digs, 7 blocks, and 2 aces. Her seven blocks helped her become Delhi’s all-time career leader in that statistical category. Hailie Chandler (8 digs, 6 kills) and Victoria Baxendale (29 assists, 2 blocks, 2 aces) had strong performances as well.

SUNY Adirondack dominates SUNY Delhi – 10/10/12

Delhi traveled to Queensbury, NY for a Mountain Valley Conference match with the Lady Timberwolves. The Lady Broncos could never get things going, and dropped a straight sets match to Adirondack by the scores of 25-14, 25-12, and 25-16. Victoria Baxendale had 15 assists, 3 blocks, and 2 aces, and Emily Miller finished with 8 kills and 4 blocks.

Delhi bumped from Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament – 10/6/12

The women’s volleyball team was eliminated following pool play at the Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament held at Onondaga Community College on Friday, October 5 and Saturday, October 6. The Lady Broncos opened pool play with a 2-0 loss to Alfred State (25-16, 25-14). The Lady Pioneers kept Delhi out of sync and never allowed them to get on track.

In the second match of the opening night, Corning CC defeated Delhi 2-0 (25-20, 25-19). Delhi received 6 kills and 1 block from Emily Miller, while Victoria Baxendale dished out 12 assists.

On the second day of play, the Lady Broncos squared off against the Lady Cannoneers of Jefferson Community College. Delhi got off to a strong start, taking the first set 28-26. However, they couldn’t keep it going and dropped the next two sets 25-18 and 15-10. Emily Miller (17 kills, 2 blocks) and Shelby Trimboli (7 kills) led the way.

In the final match of pool play, Delhi was eliminated from advancing to the playoff round by Jamestown CC. Set scores were 25-16 and 25-17. Victoria Baxendale had 15 assists and 4 digs, while all-tournament selection Emily Miller finished the day with 7 kills and 3 blocks.

Women’s Volleyball team has tough outing at Finger Lakes CC – 9/29/12

The Lady Broncos suffered three Region III losses, ending any chance of qualifying for the Region III Championship Tournament. Host school Finger Lakes Community College took the opening match of the day from Delhi with a 3-0 victory (25-22, 25-20, 25-23). Middle hitters Emily Miller (11 kills) and Hailie Chandler (5 kills, 2 blocks), and setter Victoria Baxendale (21 assists) helped keep each set close.

In the second match of the day, Delhi lost a four set decision to Alfred State by the scores of 26-24, 18-25, 11-25, and 12-25. The Pioneers strong service game kept Delhi’s reception off balance for the entire match, never allowing them to get into a rhythm. Victoria Baxendale (29 assists), Emily Miller (8 kills, 5 blocks), Hailie Chandler (9 kills) and Raven Worthing (17 digs, 5 kills) led the effort.

Delhi finished the day losing to #6 nationally ranked Monroe Community College 3-0 (25-9, 25-21, 25-10). The Lady Tribunes used a strong service game, paired with a quick tempo offense to win the match. Delhi was led by the middle attack of Emily Miller (6 kills, 2 blocks) and Hailie Chandler (6 kills), while Victoria Baxendale had 18 assists.

Lady Broncos split home Double Header – 9/26/12

Mountain Valley Conference rival Herkimer County Community College defeated SUNY Delhi 3-0 (25-21, 25-10, 25-19) in a Region III and conference match. Aside from the second set, both the first and third sets were competitive, with Herkimer pulling away late in each set. Emily Miller returned after missing nine matches due to injury, and led the offensive attack by totaling 10 kills in 18 attempts. Victoria Baxendale had 20 assists and 2 aces, while Sarah Piana contributed 4 kills and 3 blocks.

In the second match of the evening, Delhi won in straight sets over Elmira College JV by scores of 25-22, 25-10, and 25-15. Victoria Baxendale gave Elmira fits throughout the match, tallying 18 assists and 8 service aces. The attack was led by Emily Miller (10 kills) and Shelby Trimboli (6 kills).

Delhi goes 1-2 at Jefferson POD – 9/22/12

The women’s volleyball team traveled to Watertown, NY for three Region III matches. In the first match of the day, Delhi defeated Cayuga Community College 3-1 (25-16, 23-25, 25-20, 25-10). The Broncos were paced by Victoria Baxendale who dished out 25 assists. Sarah Piana led the play at the net, tallying 8 kills and 6 blocks, while Raven Worthing (22 digs) led the defense.

In the second match, Delhi lost a straight set decision to host school Jefferson Community College by the scores of 25-17, 25-13, 25-16. The Cannoneers first tempo offense kept the Lady Broncos off balance throughout the match. Delhi was led by Victoria Baxendale (22 assists) and Raven Worthing (9 kills, 9 digs).

The final match of the day had Delhi paired off against the Lazers of Onondaga Community College. OCC opened the match with two 25-18 set wins, and finished off the Broncos with a thrilling third set victory, 31-29. Once again, Victoria Baxendale kept the offense clicking with 22 assists. Raven Worthing finished with 9 digs, 8 kills, and 2 aces, while Hailie Chandler had 6 kills and 2 blocks.

Broncos outlast Hawks – 9/19/12

The women’s volleyball team found themselves in a 2 sets to 1 hole, only to respond and pull off a 3-2 victory over Mohawk Valley Community College. Delhi took set one by the score of 25-22, but MVCC fought back and took the next two sets 25-15 and 25-23.

The Lady Broncos put together some strong service runs during the fourth set, and took the 25-18 victory. During the fifth set Delhi was down 8-7 when both teams flipped court sides. After taking an 11-10 lead, Delhi’s Kelly McBreairty (25 digs, 7 aces) served three straight points, pushing the score to 14-8. However, McBreairty miss-served on match point, and Mohawk Valley regained the serve. With the score at 14-11, MVCC served into the net, giving Delhi the 15-11 set win, and the match victory.

Delhi captain Victoria Baxendale dished out 40 assists, to go along with 12 digs and 2 aces. Middle hitters Hailie Chandler (12 kills, 2 blocks) and Sarah Piana (7 kills) led the attack.

Spikers play well at Broome POD – 9/15/12

The women’s volleyball team won two of three Region III matches held at Broome Community College. During the first match of the day, Delhi got off to a strong start by taking the first set from Corning Community College by the score of 25-16. However, the Red Barons responded, and took the next three sets 25-8, 25-12, and 25-13. Delhi was paced by Victoria Baxendale (13 assists), Hailie Chandler (8 kills), and Kelly McBreairty (15 digs).

In the second match of the day, Delhi took a three sets to one win over Tompkins-Cortland Community College. The Lady Broncos got off to another strong start, winning the first set 25-12. The second set saw Delhi trailing most of the way, but the team was able to pull off a 26-24 win. After TC3 took the third set 25-21, Delhi came back to win set four 25-19. Kelly McBreairty led the charge with 21 digs and 8 aces. Kacey LeFever led the team with 15 kills, while Hailie Chandler chipped in with 8 kills.

The final match of the day paired the Lady Broncos against the host school, Broome Community College. Once again Delhi got out to a fast start by taking the first set 25-15. BCC responded well during set number two, as they won 25-13. After facing a 1-1 tie, Delhi played strong volleyball the rest of the way, and took the next two sets 26-16 and 25-19. Victoria Baxendale paced the offensive attack by dishing out 29 assists to go along with 4 kills. Raven Worthing (23 digs) and Kelly McBreairty (19 digs) anchored the back row defense, while Kacey LeFever led all attackers with 10 kills.

Delhi Takes Two – 9/12/12

The SUNY Delhi Volleyball Team played a double-header for their home opener, defeating Mountain Valley Conference opponent Columbia-Greene Community College followed by Davis College.

In the first match, Delhi won all three sets versus CGCC by the scores of 25-19, 25-17, and 25-18. The Lady Broncos were paced by Kacey LeFever (11 kills, 5 aces) and Tori Baxendale (19 assists, 7 aces).

Delhi’s next match saw them come away with a 3-0 victory over Davis College (25-13, 25-16, 25-21). Kelly McBreairty (11 digs, 7 aces) had a strong performance for Delhi. Setter Tori Baxendale chipped in 24 assists, while Raven Worthing contributed 10 kills and 9 digs.

Lady Broncos bucked at Herkimer POD – 9/8/12

The women’s volleyball team lost all three Region III Pod matches at Herkimer County Community College. The first match saw Delhi lose to ninth-ranked Erie Community College 25-20, 25-17, 26-24. Tori Baxendale had 18 assists, while Raven Worthing contributed 18 digs and 5 kills.

Delhi faced seventh-ranked Niagara County Community College in the second match of the day, and was defeated in straight sets, 25-16, 25-17, 25-12. Worthing had 14 digs, and Emily Miller had 3 kills and 3 blocks.

In the final match of the day, the Lady Broncos were shut down by Jamestown Community College, dropping the match by the scores of 25-12, 25-16, and 25-8. Baxendale (10 assists, 3 aces), Miller (10 digs, 5 kills) and Worthing (22 digs, 4 kills) led the way.

Delhi loses first match of season – 9/5/12

The women’s volleyball team traveled to Fulton-Montgomery CC for their opening match of the season. After getting off to a strong start, the Lady Broncos took set one by the score of 25-16. The Lady Raiders responded and took control of the match, winning set two 25-21. Delhi never recovered, and dropped the last two sets by the scores of 25-17 and 25-19. Delhi was led by sophomores Emily Miller (11 kills, 4 blocks) and Tori Baxendale (30 assists, 2 aces), as well as freshman Raven Worthing (18 digs, 10 kills).
