H1N1 Influenza Update
January 19, 2010

Eight (8) H1N1 vaccination clinics were held on campus during the Fall 2009 semester, and more than 425 vaccines were administered to students.  The New York State Health Department continues to strongly encourage college students to receive the vaccine.  The H1N1 vaccine is free and is available to any SUNY Delhi student who would like to receive it.  Simply stop by the Health Service in Foreman Hall.

At SUNY Delhi, the Health Service did see an increased incidence of respiratory illness and influenza-like illness, particularly in November 2009.  A few SUNY Delhi students have been confirmed as having contracted mild cases of the H1N1 influenza and have fully recovered. It is important to remember that most cases of H1N1 across the state have been mild in nature, and patients generally recover with little or no medical intervention within 3-5 days.

Students, staff and faculty are advised to check the Health Service web page and H1N1 information link at

http://www.delhi.edu/campus_life/health_services/swineflu.php

so they can self-monitor for symptoms and management of the illness. Faculty members are encouraged to be flexible regarding student absences from class.

Good health habits such as self-isolation when symptoms occur, hand washing, and covering one's mouth and nose when coughing are very important. Students are encouraged to come to the Health Service in Foreman Hall if they develop symptoms such as fever or cough, or if they are concerned whether they are ill with H1N1 Influenza.  The center is open Mon. – Thurs., 8:30 am - 6 pm, and Fridays 8:30 am - 4:30 pm.

The College will continue to provide updates as needed.
