How do I create a message rule?

To Create a Message Rule...

CAVEAT: Be extremely careful how you phrase the rule to ensure you do not lose important/non-junk messages! When in doubt DO NOT make a rule or call the Help Desk for assistance!

Below are specific details on how to block messages CIS has flagged as SPAM.

  1. Point to/Hover over 'Tools' (tan button) when you are in your mailbox

  2. Click 'New Mail Rule' (from the drop down list)
    New Rule
  3. Type a name for the rule
  4. Select 'Enabled'
  5. Select the various choices to meet your needs - Click 'Add'
    For Example To create a rule to block mail that is flagged as SPAM:
    Under When
    Select 'Subject'
    Select 'contains'
    Type '[SPAM?]'  (This text must be exactly as it appears here - without the quotes.)
    Click 'Add'
    Under Create actions
    Select 'Delete'
    Click 'Add'

  6. Click 'OK'

CAVEAT: Be extremely careful how you phrase the rule to ensure you do not lose important/non-junk messages!

Note: This will now manage any new incoming messages and will not delete messages already in your Inbox.
