Impatica Quick Reference

Impatica for PowerPoint Quick Reference Guide

Once Impatica is opened, do the following:

  1. Click on add
  2. Locate the ppt file(s) you want to convert, highlight it, and click on open
  3. Check the box next to include playback controls if it is not already checked.  (if there are multiple ppt files you are converting, you should click on apply to all)
  4. If you want animations to be automatic (versus on a mouse click), click on the tab called media and animations and select the box near make all animations automatic (again, if there are multiple ppt files you are converting, you should click on apply to all)
  5. Click on translate
  6. When the translation is complete, you can click on preview to see the slide show

To import the necessary files into WebCT:
When you “translate” a ppt file using impatica, three files will be created:

  • an html file
  • an  .imp file  and,
  • a file called IMPlayer.jar

ALL OF THESE THREE FILES MUST BE ZIPPED AND UPLOADED TO WEBCT MANAGE FILES AREA.     Once you’ve uploaded the zip file into webct, you’ll unzip it. (Instructions on zipping/unzipping can be found in your WebCT manual in the “Adding Content” section.)   The file you want to link to in your content module (or single page) is the  html one.

One thing I did notice is that if you put the converted ppt into a WebCT content module, it is difficult to see the whole slide at once, so, in Internet Explorer browser, just go up to “view” and select “full screen”  , then you can see the entire slide much more completely.

Notes on narrating PowerPoint slide shows:

Once you’ve completed creating a PowerPoint slide show, the narration can be added right within PowerPoint.  Open the ppt file you’d like to narrate, and follow these steps:

  1. Go to Slide Show in the top tool bar
  2. Drag down to Record Narration.  For best results, click on Change Quality.  Then near attributes, use the drop-down menu to select “8,000 Hz, 16 bit, mono”, then click on O.K.
  3. Click on O.K.
  4. The slide show will automatically begin.  Add the narration to the slide show as you go through each slide
  5. When your done, a message will come up indicating “Narrations have been saved,…”  Click on Save.
  6. You would follow the steps shown above to run the ppt file through Impatica, and to zip/ upload to WebCT, etc .  But please note the following:

When you translate the powerpoint through impatica, make sure that in the “media and animations” tab,  under “wait for sound” the box that says “at end of animation” is unchecked, and the one that says “at end of slide” is unchecked.  Also make sure that the box near “make all animations automatic” is unchecked.
