SUNY DELHI FIRST TO OFFER BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN NURSING COMPLETELY ONLINE IN NEW YORK STATE

DELHI, NY … SUNY Delhi is poised to become the first college in New York State to offer a bachelor’s degree in nursing completely online. The college received approval from the State University of New York system and is awaiting approval from the New York State Education Department to offer an online BSN program beginning January 2008.

According to Dr. Mary Pat Lewis, SUNY Delhi nursing department chair, there are no other institutions within New York State that offer an upper division RN to BSN program completely online.

“SUNY Delhi has a long history of providing an exceptional nursing education that helps meet local and state-wide healthcare needs,” said Dr. Lewis. “The online BSN is a natural extension of SUNY Delhi’s nursing program and a response to a state and national need for baccalaureate-prepared nurses.”

The program was designed with maximum flexibility for working professionals, making this initiative ideal for nurses who are currently employed and are geographically place-bound. Students will earn a BSN degree after three years of part-time study. Graduates may pursue career opportunities that include management, education, and advanced practice positions.

The program is expected to receive final approval from the New York State Board of Regents and Governor Eliot Spitzer by October of this year, at which time SUNY Delhi will begin accepting applications from qualified students.
