ContentWESTERN NEW YORK BUSINESS EXECUTIVE TO RECEIVE HONORARY DOCTORATE FROM SUNY DELHIDELHI, NY … Carl V. Petronio of Waterport, a nationally recognized construction industry leader, will be presented with an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree at Delhi’s 91st annual commencement on May 17. “Carl Petronio is a visionary business executive who is passionate about the educational foundation he received as a SUNY Delhi student,” says Candace S. Vancko, college president. “He is an inspirational role model for our students, and we are proud to recognize Carl’s professional achievements and long-standing support for SUNY Delhi by presenting him with an honorary degree.” He is only the seventh individual in history to receive an honorary degree from SUNY Delhi. Petronio is a partner and principal of the highly successful Allied Group Inc., which he founded with three partners in 1984. The Allied Group, with offices in Brockport and Buffalo, includes four corporations and 14 partnerships specializing in construction, real estate development, industrial park operations, regional distribution services, and low temperature warehousing. He also serves as senior executive vice president and partner for Allied Builders Inc., a subsidiary that has been ranked among the Top 100 fastest growing companies in the Rochester area by KPMG and the Rochester Business Alliance. He is at the forefront of the alternative energy movement as a principal in Western New York Energy, the first dry mill ethanol plant in New York State. The $84.7 million plant, which opened in December 2007, is expected to produce more than 50 million gallons of ethanol annually. Petronio has helped guide the construction industry at the national and state levels. He is a member of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) and served on the AGC Special Task Force that restructured the 37,000-member national organization. He also served on the National AGC Board of Directors for two years as well as several national committees. Petronio continues to be an active member of the General Building Contractors of New York State (GBC), serving on the State GBC Board of Directors for many years and as president in 1991. He is an enthusiastic advocate for the State University of New York. A 1958 SUNY Delhi graduate, Petronio has generously donated his time, energy and resources to his alma mater. He was a member of the University Colleges of Technology Strategy Board, a group of executives who volunteered their expertise to advance SUNY Delhi and the Technology Sector colleges. Petronio was previously honored by SUNY Delhi in 2004, earning the Alumni Association’s highest honor, the Alumnus of the Year Award. That same year, he was one of five individuals named Technology Titans invited to return to campus to share their life experiences and thoughts on career success with students, faculty and staff. A native of Brockport, he has also been a champion for SUNY Brockport. He currently serves on the Brockport College Council and previously served on the SUNY Brockport Foundation. Petronio’s public service activities have also included five years and an honorable discharge from the New York Army National Guard and National Guard Reserves. He was a long-standing member of Liberty and Norstar Banks’ Western Division Advisory Board, serving as chairman for several years. He is the former vice president of the National Warplane Museum. -30- 23S0408/JMS |
