ContentSUNY DELHI NAMES PRESIDENTIAL HONORS SCHOLARSDELHI, NY … Eight of the area’s leading high school graduates have been named Presidential Scholars this fall at SUNY Delhi by President Candace S. Vancko. These select graduates will be enrolled into the college’s honors program, which is designed to recognize, reward and inspire the best and the brightest local students, and help them receive their degree close to home. Each scholar will receive a full-tuition scholarship by attending SUNY Delhi. “More and more local students and parents are recognizing the value of a SUNY Delhi education, so these scholarships have become highly competitive,” said President Vancko. “I am very pleased that these elite graduates have made Delhi their college of choice.” This year’s Presidential Scholars include: Michelle Brush a culinary arts major from Hancock Central School; Faith Burns, a veterinary science technology major from Delaware Academy; Stephen Davis, an undeclared major from Downsville Central School; Amber Johnson, a nursing major from Milford Central School; Kayla Misner, a criminal justice major from Delaware Academy; Katrina Roloson, an undeclared major from Delaware Academy; Melissa Small, a physical education major from Margaretville Central School; and Juliana Wood, a liberal arts major from Walton Central School. SUNY Delhi Presidential Scholars are based on recommendations from high school superintendents in Delaware and Otsego Counties. To be eligible, students must rank within the top 15 percent of their graduating class, earn a Regents Diploma with a minimum average of 88 percent, and are required to submit a 350 to 500 word essay highlighting their extracurricular activities and achievements. Presidential Scholars must maintain a G.P.A. of 3.3 while attending SUNY Delhi to continue their scholarship status. SUNY Delhi’s honors program is designed for students who seek a greater academic challenge given their ability and personal motivation. Qualified students are challenged through specially designed honors courses in the humanities and social sciences, as well as through courses in their major.
