SUNY Delhi Ranks Among Top Baccalaureate Colleges in U.S.News & World Report’s Annual
America’s Best Colleges

August 17, 2007 – SUNY Delhi is ranked in the Top 45 of Baccalaureate Colleges in the North in the 2008 edition of “America’s Best Colleges” by U.S.News & World Report, the nation’s leading source of service journalism and news. The exclusive rankings – which this year feature some substantial changes in methodology – will be published in the magazine’s August 27 issue, on newsstands Monday, August 20, and available online at www.usnews.com/colleges beginning today.

“We are very pleased to be recognized in this elite guide to colleges for the first time,” says SUNY Delhi President Candace S. Vancko. “This honor is a tremendous endorsement of the high quality education students receive at SUNY Delhi,” she says. “It also demonstrates that SUNY Delhi has grown tremendously as a baccalaureate degree granting college.”

SUNY Delhi has emerged as one of the top choices for college bound students, according to President Vancko. Applications for Fall 2007 are up 25 percent over last year and enrollment at SUNY Delhi has increased by 24 percent since 1999.

Much of the increase is tied to Delhi's development of unique, specialized baccalaureate programs in such areas as Hospitality Management, Professional Golf Management, Golf Course Management, Veterinary Technology Management, Information Technology and Architectural Design and Building. More than 400 students are now enrolled in baccalaureate programs through SUNY Delhi.

The U.S. News ranking is the latest in a series of special recognitions for SUNY Delhi. Its Golf Course Management program was recently rated the best in New York State and among the Top 15 in the nation by TurfNet, a leading industry trade publication. SUNY Delhi was also highly rated in the 2006 SUNY Student Opinion Survey, earning scores that ranked in the Top 10 of all State University campuses in 13 key areas, including quality of instruction.

The annual rankings – in which U.S. News groups schools based on categories created by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching – provide an unmatched resource for parents and students contemplating one of life’s most challenging financial decisions.

Using a proprietary methodology, the annual U.S.News & World Report rankings represent the most comprehensive look at how schools stack up based on a set of 15 widely accepted indicators of excellence, and help consumers evaluate and compare data compiled from more than 1,400 accredited four-year schools. A complete summary of the methodology used to rank each school can be found online at www.usnews.com/colleges.
