SUNY Delhi Offers Veterinary Technology Management Degree Online

DELHI, NY … Beginning this fall, SUNY Delhi will offer its first online four-year degree in Veterinary Technology Management.

SUNY Delhi introduced its Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) in Veterinary Technology Management in the fall of 2004 and is now offering the degree over the Internet. 

“Veterinary and lab animal technicians who are place-bound will be able to take the next step toward their career goals,” said Dawn Dutka, DVM, chair of the veterinary science technology department at SUNY Delhi.  “Students will be able to pursue a bachelor’s degree online while they are working.”

According to Dutka, SUNY Delhi’s Veterinary Technology Management B.B.A. is a natural career progression for veterinary and lab animal technicians working in both clinical and research animal facilities.  The online degree is geared toward LVTs, LATGs and SRTs who have been working in the field as well as students who have recently received their associate degree and are eligible for the licensure exam.

Delhi’s online degree will prepare students as multi-talented technicians who can serve as business managers for a variety of potential employers.  The program will combine technology with specialized management courses that have evolved from the college’s previously established B.B.A. programs.

Delhi’s online Veterinary Technology Management B.B.A. will prepare graduates as supervisors who manage the scheduling of staff, facility finances and inventory control.  These technician managers will also be prepared to oversee marketing, purchasing, and all aspects of planning for an animal facility.      

“Delegation of these duties to the technician manager provides a challenging new career as well as increased flexibility and profit for the animal facility,” Dutka added. 

SUNY Delhi’s Veterinary Science Technology program is fully accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).  Its associate degree in Veterinary Science Technology was the first of its type offered in the United States.  Students of Delhi’s Veterinary Science Technology program benefit from the college’s long tradition of hands-on instruction; the program’s first-rate facilities, which include the Large Animal Teaching Facility and an in-house primate colony; and excellent internship opportunities with institutions such as NASA, Rockefeller University, the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell, Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and a host of first rate veterinary practices and hospitals.
