BONACIC GRANT BOOSTS CENTER OF EXCELLENCE INITIATIVE
September 08 , 2008 , Delhi, N.Y. … SUNY Delhi has been awarded a $75,000 grant from State Senator John Bonacic to advance the Center for Excellence in Watershed Applications and Technology-Based Economic Revitalization's (COE in WATER) subsurface disposal/irrigation project.
The grant will assist with the environmental review process and initial construction for the project, which is designed to provide the Village of Delhi's wastewater treatment plant with additional capacity by taking 200,000 gallons of treated effluent per day from the plant to be used as a sustainable irrigation source for the college golf course.
"Senator Bonacic continues to lead the way in supporting efforts to spur economic development in the region," said SUNY Delhi President Candace S. Vancko. "This project is an environmentally friendly approach that will allow the village to respond to business expansion needs and provide a national model for golf course irrigation in water restricted regions."
The subsurface disposal/irrigation project is the second COE initiative to receive support from Senator Bonacic, who previously awarded a $150,000 grant to help launch the Catskill Regional Water Testing Laboratory. The COE in WATER is a partnership that combines the expertise of SUNY Delhi and the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry to help transform the region's agricultural-based economy to an environmentally compatible, technology-driven economy
