HIV Testing

Confidential HIV test appointments are available during the academic year.  There are two choices for testing:  1.  A finger stick blood test, done at Student Health Services, for a small fee with results in 20 minutes or  2.  A venipuncture blood test that is sent to a laboratory and billed to insurance that takes several days for results.

Call the Health Service at 746-4690 and tell the person who answers the phone that you are calling for an HIV Test appointment. You will be connected to the nurse to make the appointment. You will need to give this nurse your name and a telephone number. You may also come in to the Health Service to schedule an appointment.

New York State requires that certain information be given to you in a pre-test counseling session and that you receive your results in a post-test counseling session.Pre-test appointments are 30 minutes and include the blood test if you decide to proceed.

Additional protections for your privacy can be detailed during your pre-test appointment.

The post-test appointment is generally shorter and is made for you at the time of the pre-test session.

Results are ONLY given in person at the post-test appointment, NEVER over the telephone.

There is obviously a finite number of appointments available each semester. As a courtesy to your fellow students, please call if need to cancel and/or reschedule your appointment as far in advance as possible.
