Women's Health

Emergency Contraception ("Morning-after pill") is a way to reduce your risk of pregnancy after having unprotected sex. It is not intended for regular use, but should be used in situations where:
  • you had sex without birth control and do not want to become pregnant
  • the condom broke
  • your diaphragm slipped

The key factor is time! Emergency contraception is most effective when taken within 72 hours after unprotected sex.

Emergency contraception is available during normal hours and is free of charge. If the Health Service is closed and you don't feel you can wait or waiting will put you beyond the 72 hour window,
