O'Connor Center for Community Service

Graduation Awards

Every hour you perform for community service, whether as an individual, as part of an organization, or for a class, gets tracked when you fill out the Summary of Community Service available at the O'Connor Center. All students graduating with a Certificate, an Associate's or Bachelor's degree are eligible, based on the number of community service hours completed.

This is how students will be recognized: It will be listed on your co-curricular transcript, which goes to future schools and employers, and will be a wonderful addition to your résumé. Award recipients will be honored at the President's Salute to Graduates Dinner. You will be honored by President Vancko at the graduation ceremony. You will wear a specially colored honor cord depending on your level of service. Your name is announced as an award winner as you graduate.

The levels are:

Certificate Students or One Year Students:

  • Community Service Leader of Merit (bronze) - 50-100 hours of service
  • Community Service Leader of Excellence (silver) - 100-150 hours of service
  • Community Service Leader of Distinction (gold) - 150-200 hours of service

Associate Degree or Two Year Students:

  • Community Service Leader of Merit (bronze) - 100-200 hours of service
  • Community Service Leader of Excellence (silver) - 200-300 hours of service
  • Community Service Leader of Distinction (gold) - 300-400 hours of service

Bachelor's Degree Students or Four Year Students:

  • Community Service Leader of Excellence (silver) - 300-600 hours of service

If you have done a lot of service, and think you may be eligible, please stop by the O'Connor Center. We have each student's hours on file, if the community service forms were filled out. We can tell you how many hours you have done, and how many you will need to reach the level of recognition.
