President’s Report

Common Hour
- Please utilize the offerings available
- The Muppets will be playing on Feb. 23^rd at 12:30 pm and 7 pm
- Campus Social Feb. 24^th from 4-7 pm in Alumni Hall –wear green and you will be eligible for a prize!
- April 16-18 is the Middle States visit—Thank you to everyone who worked on the review
- Coffees—March 5^th on Strategic Planning, March 26^th on Shared Services and May 4^th on the work of the Student Success Workgroup
- May 10^th is the 10^0thBirthday Opening Gala, $100 per person which will go toward student scholarships; Quandts Foodservice Distributors is sponsoring the dinner
- J. Nader: Sanford Hall class moving is progressing well; new Common Hour times possible of either keeping the 12:30 on Thursday or moving it to Wednesday at 4:25—the Wednesday option present fewer problems
- J. Tessie: Common Hour is also useful for scheduling meetings
- J. Nader: Promotions and Renewals—moving toward electronic submissions; would it be useful for all? The hope is to use it for those who want to do so; discussion on why it would be useful—paper saving, saves time, convenient
- J. Nader: Student Success Work Group—very important committee; comes out of looking at dismissals, probations and the profile of the student population

Curriculum Committee

Motion: K. MacLeod; Seconded: D. Sivers; approved	CC11-29	February 7	Applied Science & Technology	The proposal to add a new course Automotive Alternative Fuels and Hybrid Technology was approved. Nancy will assign it an AUTO 200 number.
Motion: D. Stein; Seconded: M. DeFreece; Abstention: L. Goodwin-Burwood; approved the new track only (in bold).	CC11-30	February 7	Applied Science & Technology	The proposal to develop a new track under the BBA Golf Course Management BBA Athletic and Sports Field Management was approved. The following courses AFSM 306 Human Resource Management, AFSM 290 Maintenance Facility Management, AFSM 310 Planning & Budgeting and AFSM 400 Senior Seminar will be coming back to curriculum to be approved as individual courses. Also need to check on the number of credits as this is different from the other degree in the track.
Motion: S. Swayze; Seconded: S. Babcock; approved	CC11-31	February 7	Applied Science & Technology	The proposal to add a new course AFSM 304 Managing Athletic Surfaces was approved with changing the prerequisites to TURF 210 and TURF 240 and changing it to the upper level on the banner grid.
Motion: S. Babcock; Seconded: S. Swayze; Abstention: L Goodwin-Burwood; approved	CC11-32	February 7	Business & Hospitality	The proposal to add a new course BUSI 290/390 Independent Study was approved.
Motion; Seconded and approved	CC11-22	December 6	Business & Hospitality	The proposal to teach BUSI 344 Organizational Theory in online format taking out the G.P.A. requirement of 2.3 was approved.

Motion to accept the use of a Curriculum Committee short form for Outline For Changes in Course Objectives to better support assessment needs: S. Babcock; seconded: M. DeFreece; approved

Budget and Planning Committee Report to the Senate

Trends
- decrease in asking for items because there is no money—asking for bare essentials
- how things are going with shared services
- enhanced technology
- long-term uncertainty—leadership
- increased stress with a decrease in personnel
- concerns about services going away because of the budget
- President’s response on Confluence
- Questions: What does the budget look like? Answer: The Governor does not anticipate more cuts this year

Continuing and Term Appointment Committee

Format for submitting portfolios—discussion on the use of electronic receipt for portfolios; use a system similar to Interview Exchange to securely receive and view them; some on the committee don’t feel that Confluence is secure enough
Are there different standards of evaluation for on-campus vs. online faculty?
- Section B of the criteria includes academic advisement—BSN has centralized advisement
- Question to the Senate—Is it equitable for faculty to be evaluated on their advisement or should it be taken out of Effectiveness of Teaching and moved to Effectiveness of University Service?
  - BSN faculty response—have other areas that they participate in—program development, technology evaluation
  - Human Resources needs to develop online teaching criteria for evaluation
  - Concern about Electronic Signatures—how is this being done at other campuses?
  - Please forward any questions and concerns to the Presider along with any ideas—straw poll of ease of use of Confluence(4) vs. Vancko Hall (9)—not all members have experience with both
  - Ask your functional area for their thoughts
  - P. Peters—would like an online faculty member to be able to sit on the Continuing/Term Appointment Committee

Motion to approve the minutes of December 12, 2011 with the to change the first item of old business to read – Staff Senate Committee for Term and Permanent Appointment—postponed until the faculty process has been clarified; Motion: L. Goodwin-Burwood; Seconded: C. Vesterfelt; abstention: S. Babcock; approved

Discussion of the Academic Calendar for 2013-2014 will be conducted at the next meeting; request for the number of students enrolled in J-term courses and summer internships
