Delhi College Senate Minutes April 14^th, 2008

Meeting called to order by Presider, Julee Miller

Quorum established at 4:22 p.m.

Present:

The minutes from the March 24^th, 2008 meeting were approved.

Calendar Draft

Is the start before Labor Day is just going back to previous calendars or is this driven by the fact that the Fall 2007 start was problematic?
- The end of the fall semester is very close to Christmas if kept to the same format.
- J. Taylor: The end of the calendar (Fall semester) drives the beginning of the semester
- T. Hamblin: Can we get an official clarification?

Senate Plenary

Concerns to bring before the Plenary
- J. Taylor: Do other schools have a cap on the number of students in online courses?
- Enrollment is up but the budget is going down. What is going on with the budget?
- T. Hamblin: Will e-mail agenda and faculty can sit in on Plenary sessions.
- Is there a potential for a hiring freeze?

University Faculty Senate President's Report

Faculty and staff can participate by self-nomination to join a Faculty Senate Committee

College Senate Nominations

13 at large positions are up; some current members terms may also be opening up
May 12^th: approve nominations as voted by functional area
At large nominations will be finalized at the June meeting; will also select the executive board
M. Stock to send out information on which terms are up for nomination

CC07-22	April 1	Nursing & Allied Health	A new course ALHT 105 Clinical Calculations was approved	Approved
CC07-23	April 1	Nursing & Allied Health	A new course ALHT 202 Research Methods in the Social and Behavioral Sciences was approved with the addition of cross listing it as SOSC 202.	Approved
CC07-24	April 1	Nursing & Allied Health	A new course ALHT 400 Epidemiology with addition of ALHT 202 as a prerequisite and changing the prerequisite of statistics to Math 115 or equivalent	Approved
CC07-25	April 1	Nursing & Allied Health	A new course NURS 400 Leadership and Management in Nursing was approved with changing the prerequisite of statistics to Math 115 or equivalent and changing the Carnegie units to 4:4,0.	Approved
CC07-26	April 1	Nursing & Allied Health	The proposal to change the name of NURS 300 Nursing Science to Professional Issues in Nursing was approved with also changing the prerequisite of statistics to Math 115 or equivalent	Approved
CC07-27	April 1	Applied Science and Recreation	The proposal to change the credit hours of TURF 240 from 2 to 3 credits was approved	Approved

CC07-33	April 1	Technology	The proposal to change the credit hours on AECT 390 CM Internship I from 7 to 9 was approved	Approved

CC07-35	April 1	Technology	The proposal to update the Construction Management Option Program Layout was approved with the removal of ANTH 300 Survey of World Cultures and replacement of a GE-6 elective; moving AECT 410 from semester 7 to semester8; moving AECT 450 from semester 8 to semester 7, changing the AECT 390 Internship I to 9 credits, moving AECT 380 from semester 6 to semester 5 and changing the overall credits to 63.	Approved
CC07-19	March 4	Technology	The tabled proposal to teach CARP 130 Light Frame Construction as an internet course was approved	Not online in the fall but will be in the spring

Motion to accept all proposals.
The motion was seconded and approved.

Other

J. Taylor: Labor-management grants have been funded-new monies available
Question: Did the Senate review the DAD day schedule?
- Not within the Senate purview
- Why doesn't the Senate have input?
- Larger enrollment may cause DAD to interfere with current students and their services.
- Faculty and staff are feeling stretched due to Extra Service and weekend and summer obligations
  - June 24^th is the end of the obligation period
- L. Mokay: asked to have NYC DAD days put into service again
- Some departments are small and responsibility for coverage is not equitable
  - Many feel that they are forced to cover these days

The meeting was adjourned at 5:38 p.m.
