What is Live@edu?
Live@edu is a service offered by Microsoft for use by SUNY Delhi students. It includes many different services such as email, file storage, collaboration tools and many others.
Why did we move to Live@edu?
We moved to Live@edu for many different reasons, but below are some of the main reasons:
- Increased email storage capacity 150MB to 10GB of email. This means that most users will never need to delete anything…ever.
- SkyDrive, 25GB of online password protected storage (Click here or here for info on SkyDrive).
- Increased access from mobile devices such as Blackberry, iPhone/iPad, android, and Windows mobile.
- POP support and the ability to forward email to another email account.
- Improved messaging rules and filters for managing email.
- Improved Spam filtering. Less junk will make it to the inbox.
- Online Web Apps for Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, campus standard office productivity tool, at no cost to the students or College (Click here for information on MS Web Apps)
- Account allows students to create personalized web presences (Space, Blog and ability to upload pictures).
- Provides chat and group chat service even leveraging groups, for group chat.
- Allows users to create groups to work in an online collaborative environment for teams, clubs or class groups.
- Reduces the number of passwords students need to remember as they will use their Bronco Web PIN as the password. Students will be able to use the same password for Email, Bronco Wireless (formerly ResNet) access, Bronco Web and Moodle. Note: Moodle and Bronco Web use the ID number for the username and the other services will use their email address.
- Students will now be listed in the main email directory for easier access.
Important notes:
- Each student will receive a new email address. Students who have an email address on the current system will receive a new address. The new email account address will be published to the student’s Bronco Web account. The username to access email will be their new email address and the password will be their Bronco Web PIN number. New email addresses will end in @live.delhi.edu
- The old email system (Domino) will remain active until 12/31/2010. This is to allow students to retrieve / forward messages and address books. It is important to note that no messages or address books will be moved during the migration. The two systems will co-exist for the Fall 2010 semester, but first-time students may never be issued an account on the old system once we make the switch. The live.delhi.edu account will become their primary email account on Monday evening 8/23/2010.
- Faculty, Staff, and Parents who may have student email addresses saved in their address books will need to update their records to indicate the new student email addresses.
There may be other unanticipated problems as we go through the process. Students experiencing issues should contact the CIS Helpdesk by calling extension 4835 (607-746-4835 from off campus). The helpdesk can also be reached at helpdesk@delhi.edu or by sending an instant message to delhihelp 4835. We sincerely thank you for your patience as we complete this upgrade and apologize if any inconvenience is caused.
