Alumni Weekend

Alumni Weekend is Changing

Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 13, 2018 as a day to re-Discover Delhi!

Based on alumni feedback, we have moved away from a June reunion so that we may host alumni when the campus is fully active. Please save the date (10/13/18) and check back for updates and to register.

What are the dates for the 2018 Alumni Weekend?

The main day of activities will be Saturday, October 13. There will be a farewell breakfast on Sunday, October 14.

Are all alumni welcome to re-Discover Delhi on October 13?

Absolutely!   As always, all alumni are welcome.

Will there be any overnight accommodations offered?

Because college will be in session in October, the residence halls will be full and there will not be rooms available on campus. However, the college is working to book a block of rooms at a reduced rate for alumni and offer a shuttle bus service to the hotel if there is enough interest. You may also want to explore more area accommodations.

Why was Alumni Weekend moved to a different month?

The decision was weighed carefully and was informed by the results of the recent Alumni Attitude Survey, plus many years of alumni feedback following our June activities.  We consistently heard that early June is a difficult time for many alumni to attend.  This was evidenced by declines in attendance.  Last year only 40 alumni stayed in Catskill Hall during Alumni Weekend.

Alumni also shared that they would like to see more people when they come back to campus, not only fellow alumni but students, faculty and staff, too.  Hosting homecoming in October will allow alumni to experience our thriving campus, reunite with past friends and have the potential of meeting many more new friends.  What’s more, the campus facilities and food service venues will be open and readily available.  Alumni often expressed disappointment when returning in June because campus is always under heavy construction and many buildings are closed.

This move will allow returning alumni to focus on meaningful interactions with their classmates and a greater variety of people who make up the Delhi campus community. Additional benefits include:

  • More offerings for attendees, including full campus tours, athletic competitions, an academic and student services fair and special sessions hosted by faculty.
  • Expanded and improved food service.

What about alumni who find it more difficult to attend in October?

Unfortunately there’s no perfect time to organize an event like alumni weekend.  We hope that by trying something new it will allow more alumni to participate.

Will the Alumni Awards still be presented?

Yes. The SUNY Delhi Alumni Association Awards will be presented as part of dinner on Saturday, October 13.  The Athletic Hall of Fame Awards will be presented in November during a double-header Broncos men’s and women’s basketball game.
