How to Apply

An international applicant is a prospective student who is neither a U.S. citizen nor permanent resident of the United States and will require a non-immigrant visa for study in the United States.

The application process at SUNY Delhi is based on a rolling admission plan wherein we will accept applications until the program has reached its acceptance or enrollment limit.

Completion of the application is recommended by March 1 (for Fall entry) and November 1 (for Spring entry).

Please note deadlines for complete applications as visa appointment wait times may be lengthy and course availability is limited.

Step 1: Submit your application for admission

Step 2: Pay the non-refundable application fee

Pay the non-refundable application fee of $50 per campus by credit card or check. Checks must be payable to SUNY Application Services Center (SUNY ASC) in U.S. dollars drawn on a U.S. bank. Do not send cash.

SUNY (State University of New York) will hold a Free Application Week for undergraduate applicants in October 2025. During this period, students can apply to up to five SUNY schools with no application fee. The specific dates for the 2025 Free Application Week are October 21-November 3.

Step 3: Submit your Academic records

After you submit your application, you will receive an email with login information where you can upload the required documents.

First Year/Freshman: 

  •  SUNY Delhi requires first – year applications to self – report their high school transcript. Students that are admitted will be required to send an official transcript. The transcripts must have a seal, stamp or signature of a school or government official in the original language showing all courses taken, grades earned, examinations passed, and diplomas obtained. If records are not written in English, please provide an exactly worded and certified translation. Students are strongly encouraged to use World Education Services or TEC.

Transfer: 

  • Applicants must arrange to have official transcripts forwarded directly to the Enrollment Services Office. If you have transcripts from colleges or universities outside of the United States, they must be submitted in English and evaluated by a Credential Evaluation Service, such as World Education Services or TEC .

Note: Transfer students with fewer than 24 post-secondary credits must supply an official secondary school translated transcript and meet the English language proficiency requirement.

Step 4: Submit your official TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo scores and English Proficiency form

Applicants whose native language is not English must submit an official score report from one of the following tests and English Proficiency form.

The minimum exam grades recognized by SUNY Delhi are noted below:

  • TOEFL(written 480 of higher) 
  • TOEFL iBT(internet-based TOEFL 55 or higher)
  • IELTS(5.5 or higher) examination, or
  • Duolingo (80 or higher)

SUNY Delhi CEEB code is 2525.

Scores must be within a two-year time frame prior to application term.

The English Proficiency Statement form must be completed by a director of courses in English (or duly designated representative) of a bi-national center or a professor of English at a school or university.

Note: Students could be exempt from this requirement if they are:

  • First-year applicants who have attended a High school in the United States
  • Transfer applicants from an accredited college within the USA with an AA or AS.
  • Students with two semesters of successful academic coursework including successful completion in a Composition 100 course and in general education courses (humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, mathematics).
  • Native English-speaking (link to the native English-Speaking countries)
Step 5. Submit Financial Documents

In compliance with United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) regulations, all international applicants must provide evidence of sufficient funds available for their studies.

We require the following documents for the financial evaluation process. These documents must be dated six months or fewer prior to the date of the semester you are attending and can be sent directly to the Enrollment Services Office at SUNY Delhi:

  • SUNY International Student Financial Statement the form will be available once you submit your application
  • An official bank statement showing available funding for one full academic year. The bank statement must come from the student, his or her parent(s), or a sponsor. The balance must be converted to U.S. dollars. Bank statement amounts should total no less than $34,380 USD. for a 4 year programs and $30,200 USD. for two year programs Financial documentation must be in English and must be in United States Dollars (USD) or shown at the applicable conversion rate.
Step 6: A written essay in English
Topics may include: why you are applying to study in the United States, reasons for selecting the field of study chosen, work experience relevant to your field of study, the explanation for any extended interruption in your school attendance, special interests or abilities you have, plans for further study and/or employment after completion of your first degree, family background, etc. The essay should be no longer than two pages.
Step 7: Copy of the biography page of your passport and current F1 visa

First Time International Students in US

  • Copy of the biography page of your passport. This is the page that includes complete legal name, country of citizenship and photograph.

Transfer students who are already in US - Current students studying in the United States on an F-1 Student Visas must also provide the following information:

  • Photocopy of the passport page that includes your identification photo and U.S. Visa page
  • Photocopies of all Form I-20s
  • Photocopy of current I-94
