The SafeZone: LGBTQ+ Ally Development Program

The SafeZone: LGBTQ+ Ally Development Program

The SafeZone: LGBTQ+ Ally Development Program is a comprehensive and ongoing training offered through the MOSAIC Multicultural Center and the Center for Student Leadership & Engagement, with trained facilitators from various areas on campus. The training has the overarching goal of making SUNY Delhi a safer, braver, more affirming and welcoming space for all members of our campus community. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the LGBTQ+ community, reflect on their personal ally journey, while enhancing skills necessary for making a difference in their environments and within interactions.

SafeZone Level One

SafeZone is a standard two hour training session consisting of defining safe zones, LGBTQ+ ally development through an intersectional framework, LGBTQ+ vocabulary, applying theory to practice regarding identity development, unpacking components of gender, sex, and sexuality, and inclusive language and communication. The training can also be offered in three and four hour sessions which are customizable to your specific needs.

SafeZone Levels Two and Three

We also offer a Beyond SafeZone curriculum designed to provide ongoing personal and professional development to participants who have completed the two, three, or four hour SafeZone Ally Development workshops. These sessions, or “conversessions,” are laid-back, informal opportunities to engage in reflection around specific topics briefly discussed in the SafeZone Allyship Development Workshop. Conversessions include, but are not limited to:

  • Asexuality
  • Creating Queer & Trans* Affirming Classrooms
  • Creating Queer & Trans* Affirming Clubs/Organizations
  • Creating Queer & Trans* Affirming Living Environments
  • Pronouns
  • Queer Criminalization
  • Trans* Identities
