SUNY Delhi President Announces His Departure

Delhi, NY (05/02/2022) — SUNY Delhi President Michael R. Laliberte, who has served as the College's tenth president since 2016, has announced his departure from the institution this June. The news was shared with the campus community in early April.

"When I joined SUNY Delhi as President, I worked to move the campus forward to meet the demands of our shifting society and students' future needs," Dr. Laliberte says. "I knew this aggressive agenda would take at least five years to complete. Six years later, I believe we have surpassed those goals, and I am ready to accept new challenges."

During his tenure, Dr. Laliberte developed and instituted a new strategic plan for SUNY Delhi and revised its mission and vision statements in collaboration with the campus community. He established the Office of Marketing and Communications and the MOSAIC Multicultural Center and helped develop several new academic degree programs to address workforce needs. He also guided the athletic program's transition to full membership standing in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

Laliberte also led over $42 million in capital improvements, including the installation of a new artificial turf field, renovation of the Veterinary Science Center and South Hall as an architecture teaching laboratory, and the construction of the Bluestone Pub and Restaurant at the College Golf Course at Delhi, which serves as an applied learning site for culinary and hospitality students.

In addition, Laliberte successfully navigated the institution through the COVID-19 pandemic, maintaining job security for employees and ensuring students continued in their studies and advanced towards graduation. All the while, annual giving increased in most years under Laliberte's tenure.

"These accomplishments, among many others, reflect my commitment to SUNY Delhi's mission of serving students and opportunities to learn, grow, and develop the necessary skills needed to be successful in an ever-changing world," Dr. Laliberte notes. "I am thankful for the opportunity to serve as president of this great institution."

Dr. Laliberte has accepted the position of President of the University of Maine at Augusta, where he will begin his tenure this fall.

SUNY Delhi will appoint an interim president as the College conducts a nationwide search for the next president.

Enrolling over 3,000 students, SUNY Delhi is a member of the State University of New York.
