Smoking Regulations

SUNY Delhi is committed to providing a tobacco and smoke-free environment including prohibiting the use of all forms of smoking and vaping products in the residential area of campus, both indoors and outdoors, including in and around all residence halls & townhouses, Clark Field House and Foreman Hall.

As per NYS law, smoking is prohibited in all campus buildings and residence halls.

As per SUNY Delhi policy, smoking is defined as the use of a lit cigarette, cigar, hookah, electronic cigarette, electronic vape or any other form of smoking device for legal tobacco or nicotine, herbal cigarettes/products, hemp & CBD products. Smoking or vaping is prohibited in the residential area of campus. This includes in and around all residence halls & townhouses, MacDonald Hall, Clark Field house, Foreman Hall, and all open areas in between these buildings. Therefore, smoking is not permitted in Alumni Lot, Gerry Lot, DuBois Lot, Russell Lot or Clark Lot.

Outside of the residential area of campus (including Clark, MacDonald Hall and Foreman Hall), smoking and vaping tobacco products may only occur in appropriate parking lots and smoking gazebos. While smoking and vaping tobacco is permitted in parking lots outside of these areas, you must be at least 25 feet away from any campus building.

This map shows the area surrounding the residence halls, Clark field house and Foreman hall highlighted in yellow and previous smoking gazebos in that area have been changed to purple. Remaining approved smoking gazebos can be found outside the A-tech area, outside of Bush, outside of Farnsworth and outside of Smith halls.

The following are also restricted under this policy:

  • Hookahs are not permitted on SUNY Delhi's campus.
  • Smoking and vaping of other drugs (including cannabis) are prohibited on the entire campus.
  • Smoking or vaping any product is prohibited from occurring in any university-owned vehicles.

This policy promotes a healthy, safe, and sustainable environment that protects all members of the SUNY Delhi community from involuntary exposure to secondhand smoke and/or secondhand aerosol.
