SUNY Delhi Receives $230,000 Gift from Roscoe Nursing Home

The College Foundation at SUNY Delhi has received a gift of over $230,000 from the dissolution of the Roscoe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center to support SUNY Delhi's nursing students and programs.

"There is a critical shortage of qualified nursing practitioners and nurse educators across the nation, especially in geriatric practices," said Dr. Susan Deane, dean of the School of Nursing at SUNY Delhi. "This gift is very meaningful for us as a nursing education institution in allowing us to keep developing our programs and supporting the students enrolled in them."

Half of the donation will create an endowed scholarship, the Roscoe Community Nursing Home Endowed Scholarship, which will award scholarships to students pursuing careers in geriatric nursing or closely related fields. These scholarships will allow SUNY Delhi to provide access to nursing education to talented students who may otherwise be unable to pursue nursing careers for financial reasons.

The second half of the donation will create an endowment to provide perpetual support for nursing program development. As the rapid aging of the population presents challenges and pressures on healthcare needs and delivery, this endowment creates a source of funding for research, curriculum enhancements, technology updates, and training opportunities that benefit nursing issues specific to treating geriatric populations.

"These gifts will support our nursing students and programs for years to come," said SUNY Delhi President Michael Laliberte. "The School of Nursing is one of our largest departments, and we are excited to offer life-changing scholarships to nursing students and ensure our nursing programs remain cutting-edge."

Roscoe Nursing Home, an 85-bed nursing facility located in Roscoe, NY, was procured by VestraCare in 2018 and will continue to operate under the new ownership. Per the organization's original charter, proceeds of the sale were to be given to tax-exempt organizations with a similar mission.

"We are pleased that this gift will benefit the education of high-quality nurses from SUNY Delhi's programs to serve the needs of our aging populations," said Roscoe Community Nursing Home Board President Stanley Martin.

SUNY Delhi is recognized as a nursing education leader and has a long history of providing nursing education to serve local and state-wide healthcare needs. Fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), SUNY Delhi also has the prestigious designation of Center of Excellence in Nursing Education by the National League for Nursing (NLN) - the only SUNY college currently on the list.
